NEWS

A letter from the Executive Director Dear Friends and Supporters, I have the enormous privilege of guiding Women’s Support Services (WSS) in our mission to create communities free of domestic violence through intervention, prevention and education. However, we could not be successful without you. In this issue of the newsletter you will find the “Purple Page” with names of all the people who have honored us with contributions. This type of encouragement keeps us strong and moving forward with our work. We whole-heartedly thank each and every one. If you are not currently a contributor, we invite you to make a gift in any amount to show your support for ending Domestic Violence. This year, as you can see in the box, we were able to do much good. From

direct help to community education, our services help transform lives and our

communities for the better.

commitment to be accessible to all people, we closed our Boutique and recreated it as counseling space that is handicap accessible. We have also

Davis, has increased her portfolio to support clients who need help navigating the civil legal system. A new volunteer helps our criminal Court Advocate ensuring that all who need legal assistance to be safe get the help they need. These changes, along with the active oversight of the WSS Board of Directors and your support, means we can continue our 24/7 response to those experiencing the effects of domestic violence and also provide preventative education confidentially and free of charge. Thank you for being a part of this vital work. We cannot do it without you. Sincerely,

Dr. D. Elizabeth Mauro

Welcome to the new WSS Staff. Jessica Troy has been involved with WSS since the Fall of 2015 when she came in as an intern. She came back in the Summer of 2016 to join the staff as an Adult Advocate. She is finishing her degree this year completing a Bachelors in General Studies with a theme in Human Services and a minor in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies from UCONN. Jess has worked in human services for 12 years, her areas of focus include persons with developmental disabilities and the geriatric population. Jess is a survivor of domestic violence, after working on her own healing, Jess felt a calling to join the battered women’s movement. Jess is also a licensed massage therapist and has a strong meditation practice. Shelly Ross Robbins joined WSS as the new Fund Development and Communications Coordinator in September 2016. Shelly brings to her position over fifteen years experience in the fields of women’s empowerment, conflict prevention, and economic and community development. She has lived and worked in the United States, West Africa, London, Fiji and Southeast Europe. Shelly earned her MA in Coexistence and Conflict at Brandeis University and her BA in Economics and Urban Studies at William Smith College. Page 2
