Editor‟s Letter What do you know about survival? “Survival can be summed up in three words - never give up. That's the heart of it really. Just keep trying.” Bear Grylls
This edition is about survival. As another year draws to a close, we look back and wonder why we went through certain things and, most commonly, we marvel at how quickly time has flown by. Survival, for me, is about taking a different approach to whatever life throws at us. Rather than meeting a problem with anger, fear and resentment, I have learned that it is better to stand firm in my inner resolve knowing that eventually it will pass. The important thing to always remember when in a survival situation is to stay strong in mind and body and don‟t allow your troubles to manipulate you into acting out of character. Just continue to trust that you are on the right path, develop an inner smile and cry when no one is looking.
So, what’s in store for winter? I am incredibly excited to feature on our winter cover property expert and TV presenter Sarah Beeny. A firm believer that: „practice makes perfect.‟ Page 42 In our special survival features, meet three amazingly strong women who have been through some tough times: electrician Kelly Vincent, who founded an all-female electrician company; inspirational role model Kanya King, who founded the MOBO Awards; and inspirational speaker and polar explorer Ann Daniels, who proves that nothing is impossible when you put your mind to it. Three different women all with one thing in common – a firm belief that giving up is not an option. Fancy some butternut squash soup made by a superstar? Well here it is! Award-winning singer-songwriter turned chef Kelis brings us some colourful recipes to keep you warm and healthy during the cold months. Cheers Kelis! Don‟t forget – whilst preparing to enter into a new year, don‟t feel disappointed about the things you could not achieve over the past 12 months, perhaps 2016 is your year? Thanks for all your continued support and wonderful comments. This is our second year and I have had some amazing opportunities and look forward to sharing more with you in 2016. I wish you all a happy and safe Christmas and a fruitful New Year! See you in 2016.
