This booklet looks at the European idea, which now looks as if it were a long bygone dream. What went wrong? What should have been done to translate the dream into reality?
The author, going back all the way to the 60ies, takes the reader through a dream of his own, in which politicians believe in the idea and create enthusiasm among the populations of the various member countries, who in return encourage politicians to continue driving the transformation of Europe into a true federation that counts on the world stage and which people can be and are proud of. In this dream, the European Federation is essentially in place in 2002, when all the necessary structures, institutions, laws and transformations are completed and the Euro is introduced. The federation is not one of fatherlands but of regions. And it works! At the end, even Great Britain might want to join. All of this has been possible because politicians have been convinced that we need strong European symbols.
