BACKSTREET THEATRE COMPANY PRESENTS

ROCK OF AGES

DUBLIN LEGENDS

Thursday 23rd - Saturday 25th March 7.30pm

Tuesday 28th March 7.30pm

It’s the tail end of the big, bad 1980s in Hollywood, and the party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, lace and liquor flow freely at one of the Sunset Strips last legendary venues, a place where sex machine Stacee Jaxx takes the stage and scantily clad groupies line up to turn their fantasies into reality. Amidst the madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew longs to take the stage as the next big thing (and longs for small-town girl Sherri, fresh off the bus from Kansas with stars in her eyes). But the rock and roll fairy-tale is about to end when German developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall. Can Drew, Sherri and the gang save the strip–and themselves–before it's too late? Only the music of hit bands Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake and more hold the answer.

In 2012 The Dubliners celebrated 50 years on the road but following the sudden death of founding member Barney McKenna and John Sheahans’ decision to retire it was agreed that The Dubliners, as a touring band, would come to an end and the Dublin Legends were born. The Dublin Legends, Sean Cannon, Eamonn Campbell, Paul Watchorn & Gerry O’Connor, have over 60 years of performing with The Dubliners between them and will continue to play all the classic songs and ballads known the world over; Whiskey in The Jar, Dirty Old Town, The Wild Rover, Seven Drunken Nights, The Rare Auld Times, Molly Malone, The Irish Rover, Black Velvet Band & many more.

MAY TOWER PLAYERS PRESENTS

SEMI DETACHED Thursday 27th to Saturday 29th April 7.30pm

Fred Midway is a successful insurance salesman, a job which has secured him and his devoted wife Hilda their coveted semidetached in a leafy suburb of Dowlihull. But Fred dreams of one day “being completely detached”. He takes self-improvement correspondence courses and uses his lovingly engineered miniature steam engines as an entrée into the world of the Dowlihull elite. More to the point, he and Hilda brazenly pimp their two daughters to better-connected men, with a view to binding themselves solidly to the middle classes. When younger daughter Avril stomps in declaring her intention to divorce her husband (the nephew of the local button magnate) for going with a prostitute, a chain of complications involving all three Midway children is unveiled and threatens to destroy their social aspirations until Fred deviously resolves everything.
