MUSICIAN COLLABORATIVE

470 Washington St, Brighton, MA 02135

Senior Year: Spring 2019.

Senior Year Summer 2019 I knew I wanted to have fun with my thesis. I wanted to create a space for the community to enjoy. I focused on how networking affects people through design. Networking does not come naturally to people, and can be overwhelming. Most industries have the support of an office, the amenities, and the connections to make it easier. For emerging musicians they are on their own. Music is considered a different language. So, if a musician is more comfortable playing music than networking how is it efficient for what they’re setting out to be?

Hype Up the Tempo..... Design will connect musicians and the community through an inspiring, immerse environment.

Inspiration The gray structure and the black structure are two different geometry, but work together to form one structure. In my design, I create two different elements that represent sound and networking to form one structure.

Senior Year: Spring 2019.

Senior Year Spring 2019 I really enjoyed this project. I definitely had fun with the curves and my concept of topography inspired me a lot. I learned the difficulties of designing for a larger building. As a designer, I enjoy getting into the small details and how people interact with those details. With a smaller building it’s easier to organize my thought process. Although, this is an individual project I am excited for the near future of working on a larger scale project among a team.

The phrase “inhale/exhale really began when I started to design the ceiling. The phrase turned into the overarching meaning of the building. A place for students to come and take a break from all the stress that school work brings. The building is one big inhale when one enters and one big exhale when they leave.

Fitness Classes Second Floor

The oval shapes started to be much more then what’s happening in the opening, but more so what is happening around the oval. For the fitness classes the oval shape aloud me to create a self check-in. Around the shaped gradient glass is a locker system and a bench, storage and a check-in.

23

BENCH

LOCKERS

SELF CHECK-IN BENCH

One can walk in without interrupting any classes that are going on before hand. They will be able to take off their shoes, store away and lock up their stuff and check-in. The transition from the self check-in to bench will follow the same curve I’ve been creating at a smaller scale. Beneath both the bench and checkin there will be storage for shoes, extra fitness equipment etc. Around the corner is the lockers. When one opens the door of the locker all they see the gradient glass and beyond is the art installed. 24

The reception area for the Center for Wellness has the same type of banquette seating as the phonebooths. This seating I use in the mediation area, the group therapy area, and the counseling rooms. The idea of them is to allow student to have somewhere to put their feet up if needed.

same system of paneling and cove lighting along the wall. The room shouldn’t feel too dark, because it will cater to 20 minute naps rather than 2 hours. The privacy level is also different from the prayer room. Half of the oval shape space is the locker wall. Instead of a sink like the prayer room the half wall will have a bench.

Coffee Bar Fourth Floor

COFFEE BAR

The coffee bar was a similar idea as to the lounge on the second floor. I wanted to create a space that would lead people up the building. The coffee bar will stay open for the clubs and groups to use as they please.
