Myriad reasons are behind the concept of home schooling and why many parents are opting for such education set-up.

For some, apart from the obvious

convenience and comfort it offers, they wanted to some religious significance to their child’s learning experience. Deciding to home school children is one tough decision most parents face. It is certainly a matter not to be taken too lightly. Home schooling is definitely a personal decision only parents can make and that no one should tell them what to do, for only parents know what is best for their children, as well as for the entire family. However, there are guiding tips to abide parents in making their decisions, at the same time, helping them achieve a successful home schooling program. In deciding whether to home school your children or not, several factors have to consider first. These are: 1) Time Commitment Expect home schooling to eat up your time for most of the day. It is not just mere sitting down with books open and your child in front of you. There are more activities to get your hands busy, like normal school does, you also have projects and experiments to be done, papers to check and grade, lessons to prepare, music lessons, field trips to take, park days and so much more. To help you better with excellent tasks to provide your children, browse online and fish for ideas. 2) Personal Sacrifice A home schooling parent has little or no time away from their children. Thus, anticipate spending fewer times on your own. However, you can arrange and organize your schedules to leave some time to be on your own and continue to do the things you enjoy, as well as time with your husband or other members of the family, and even friends. You have to unwind every once in a while too, or else,

the home schooling will catch up on you and you will be too overwhelmed and exhausted to be efficient. But for the most part, sacrifice is vital. You will give up most of your personal welfare for the best of your children and their education. Basically, you will be spending 24 hours a day together with your children. At some point, this can be frustrating for both sides but as parents, you get a grip of yourself. Sacrifice and patience are the keys. 3) Financial Stability Even with home schooling, financial difficulties can arise too. Although home schooling can be done with little cost than enrolling in customary schools, it simply requires one parent to be out of job since time is of essence to home schooling. Naturally, one cannot afford to have both, teaching at home and a real job outside. Because of this, primarily, only one parent is working. And if the family is used to two incomes, then changes and sacrifices have to be made. But for a single parent, this poses an even bigger reason to be concern. 4) Socialization As mentioned, more and more time has to be devoted to teaching your child or children at home. Therefore, socializing will have to take a backseat. Instead, spend time with your children providing them with the quality education they deserve, while at the same time, take them to meet their friends too.

It is

important for home school children to mingle with their peers, catch up on with what is going on with their generation. Spending time with other kids, especially those in their same age level is healthy for them. Do not forget that like everyone else, like every adult, your kids need to be around people of the same age bracket with them. One of the favorable benefits of home schooling is having access to whatever social contacts and associations your children make.

However, there is a

downside to it. It is the role to prepare your children by yourself on how to be

friendly and socialize with others. And do not disregard the idea that home schooling has its way of making your child or children feel isolated and at times, unwanted. It is your responsibility to spare your children from such formidable feeling. 5) Household Organization Laundry, dishes and cleaning are household chores that still need to be done. But more likely, you cannot touch them much later. One thing, you probably have no time for any of it in the morning. However, for neat freaks, you are in for surprises.

House works are not the only things that need your domestic

attention, but home schooling too can be messy and does make clutters on its own. Your organization skills have to be fully developed the instant you take home schooling into consideration. 6) Assent of Both Parents It is befitting if both parents acquiesce to home schooling. It will make things more difficult and inefficient if one parent is totally against it. If this is your case, continue doing more research or talk to people and heed advises to help you ascertain if you are right about home schooling your child. If you are sure that home schooling will make your child a better person, then convince and talk with your husband about it. Otherwise, success is slimmer. 7) Child/Children’s Willingness A willing student is vital to home schooling success. Ultimately, the decision is for parents to make, but to realize the decision and to make it successful depends on the children. If they are against it too, your patience will be tested and teaching them will be extremely complicated and arduous. An unwilling child has the potential to destruct his or her own efforts.

8) Gradual Learning Do not expect your child to learn things in an instant. In fact, give him or her enough time to process relevant information and knowledge. Remember, in real schools, it takes one year for one grade level. But if you find home schooling to be not working and is not truly worth it, you can always opt for the regular route. Home schooling may sound easy but in reality, it is not. Varying factors play important roles for a home schooling program to be considered a success. More home schooling tips proven to be effective are: •

Do not make the habit of creating a dictatorial curriculum. It is not at all necessary that your children will have to comply every bit of exercises mentioned in their working books. The idea there is for them to learn valuable lessons while at the same, have the time of their lives learning.

Make formal-kind of lessons short such as math and spelling.

Avoid

drawing out boredom from your children because once a child is bored, he or she is not anymore inclined to learn. And using clear and distinctive examples is an effective way to teach. •

Most children dislike writing. Thus, they need extra help and patience from your part when writing is concerned. As a home school parent, you will eventually realize that a child can think more and is more creative if there is someone always willing and ready to assist him or her to write down his or her thoughts.

Let your children develop and draw out their potentials in their own pace. Do not push nor rush them. By doing so, you are not at all helping. Never burden your kids with too much in too short period of time.

In every lesson or home schooling session, be sure to turn off television, computers, radios, or anything distractive of attention.

Provide your

children the most suitable ambience for focus and concentration, as well as the chance to explore and learn even more. They must be also taught the need to respect proper time for everything, like time for fun and play and time for learning. •

Take your children with you on an educational trip to your local library and museum for them to be exposed to different informative stuffs and environment. If you have the luxury of time and budget, you can even make a mini library within your home and fill it with educational tools such as colorful books, spelling and math textbooks, as well as other subjects, and even interesting stories and trivia materials to create a more productive learning atmosphere.

In teaching, develop an efficacious, methodical and structural technique. You can start with the simple matters or subjects, going further to explain the more difficult and complicated concepts thenceforth. If you begin a spelling lesson with “Agitator” rather than “Apple,” do not expect your kid to fully comprehend the whole thing.

Also, it helps to keep in mind that all work and no fun make every child dull. Therefore, allow your children to take part in activities that they enjoy doing, like sports or camping or fishing trips. Find out or ask what ignites your children’s interests. It may be building blocks, computer games, modeling clays or simply reading stories.

Be aware that children learn differently and in assorted of ways. Take for example, the simplicity of touching things and the various factors it is indicative of Kinesthetic, which is clearly manifested and highlighted. And listening can be an educational tool for the essence of Auditory, while at

the same time, watching television shows or reading something out loud defines the meaning of the word Visual. Kinesthetic, Visual and Auditory are fundamental tools in the entire learning process. A child can either adopt any of these or combine the three. It is that simple, no formula, unless physically disabled. As mentors and parents, you can aid your children’s learning and memory by adapting to the significant curriculum and lessons apt to your children’s progress, learning style, and ability. •

Make use of educational materials that are appealing and truly functional. Flashcards, workbooks, textbooks, charts and matching games are just some of them. Musical instruments, rhymes or songs please auditory senses and puzzles, gardening, typing and model kits, are mostly preferred by kinesthetic learners. In short, understand and know your every child’s preference.

Home schooling is taken as an alternative approach to either private or public school especially in the United States. With its increasing popularity, home schooling is indeed going to be around for a long, long time. Additionally, public vouchers for education seem to carry complications for home school children as well as the traditional method of education. However, courts are accountable to provide answers whether or not parents of home schooling children are still eligible for these publicly funded vouchers. Numerous reasons are responsible for the changed towards home schooling. This particular method of educating is indeed an attractive approach befitting for parents with issues regarding the typical educational systems.

The latest

statistics indicate that more than two million students are home schooled in the United States. If you are one of the million of parents considering to home school one or all your children, be sure to gather enough resources and information on the matter, including state laws. Hear people’s advises and experiences before

jumping to any finale decisions. Again and again, it is your children’s future and education that is at stake. Hundreds and thousands of websites are available on the Internet for you to look into. Furthermore, you have to keep an open mind about the matter. Weigh options and information really careful and take into consideration that not all resources are useful. There are beneficial, while there are not. And there are even some that merely exist to espouse some philosophy disguising as home schooling. You can also take comfort from the networks of professionals and parents who are so much into home schooling.

These people can certainly

provide you with insights and views on the home schooling subject. Parents need not have a PhD to teach their children to home school. In fact, home schooling is the best option there is if you want to play a major role in your children’s education and learning.

Home school children are getting the

attention they deserve and want. You will then be teaching them the morals and values you hold sacredly in your heart. At the same time, you are really there, literally molding your children into the persons they are supposed to be, helping them in every aspect, setting certain standards and building their self-confidence. The success of home schooling varies and is primarily based on your relationship with your children and the manner you teach them. Dig deeper and ponder on why you really want to home school your children. Your reasons and intentions are efficacious pillars wherein the edifice of your children’s education entirely relies on. Also consult with your children on how they feel on the matter. Do not disregard their feelings and point of views on the issue. Good attitudes and adjustability are two of the cornerstones of home schooling. Do not overly stuff variations of skills in a term. Gentle parenting is among the secrets of home schooling success. Home-schooled children are generally well informed and balanced, showcasing progress and real excitement to anything worth learning.
