A Message from Rabbi Ron Stern This year we invite you to our 18th Mitzvah Day. As one of the first temples in the LA area to engage our entire synagogue in a day of hands-on projects for the good of others, we are proud to keep the momentum going for so many years. Come to the temple to participate in a Mitzvah Day project and get to know more about organizations doing good in our community. Perhaps your hour or so on Mitzvah Day will translate into a year of service for a worthy agency in our community. On Mitzvah day this year we are also holding a Mentorship Fair as we seek to recruit 50 new mentors for the Temple’s 50th anniversary. So many Temple members are already giving of their skills and times as mentors for well-deserving young people. Among the many offerings are the possibilities to advocate for special needs children in LAUSD, support a college bound High School student from an underserved school or become a “Big” brother or sister to a child from a single parent home. We’ll have representatives from many organizations that train and place mentors for children who stand to gain from the incredible human resources in our Jewish community. Interested in changing the agenda in Sacramento and Washington, D.C.? Yes we can! Find out about the political advocacy of Reform CA and the Religious Action Center and ways that you can participate. It will be another great day at Temple and we are excited to have you join us!

Community Mitzvah Day Celebration & Pancake Breakfast – 8:45 a.m.

Join us in the circle this year for our annual Temple Board of Directors sponsored Pancake Breakfast. This year’s opening will be even bigger and better with our very own students leading us in prayer, song and celebrations for our 18th Mitzvah Day. What an amazing way to start a year full of mitzvot!

Become a Mitzvah Day Sponsor! Mitzvah Day is a community-sponsored day and we need your help to make it a success! Become a Mitzvah Day Sponsor and have your family’s name featured at Opening Ceremonies or sponsor a specific project close to your heart. You may donate online through the Mitzvah Day website here or in person at the Social Justice office at the Temple. Any amount you can donate helps make it truly a day of mitzvot!

In Honor of our Jubilee - 50 Mentors for 50 years Why not make Mitzvah Day the first day to a year (or more!) of doing good for those who are less fortunate in our community. In honor of our Jubilee, our goal this year is to attract 50 new Mentors and/or Advocates to join us in our Social Justice Partner Program work. Join us for a very special presentation to find out how you can get involved in one of our Partner Programs, including: -Freedom School -Fulfillment Fund -Jewish World Watch -Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles -Public Counsel -Koreh LA -Operation MEND -KIND -Change Fire

Calling for all Gently Used Items! Mitzvah Day is the best excuse to scrape the dust off those shelves and clean out spaces where you may have items to donate. Items will be donated to local shelters and inner-city schools. Please make sure to separate and label your donation bags! For a complete list of items being accepted, visit www.WiseLA.org/MitzvahDay.
