Reviews Certainly an essential complement to the main book. In fact, if you're not a medical researcher in need of having the theory proved to you by the main book (a good bit of which was over my head), this has a very thorough introduction to the why and wherefore of the diet. I'm not much of a cook, but these recipes are very easy and tasty. Hardest challenge, of course, is just finding the alternative ingredients. But step by step you get there. BTW, I'm down a good 15 lbs over the last couple of months doing nothing different other than eliminating wheat. There's something to this, that's for sure. No calorie or gram counting whatsoever. Just slowly melts away. Love it.
I began eating as Dr. Davis suggests in his books 1 month ago. I have not weighed myself as I was more concerned about eating well and feeling better than I was about losing weight. I can tell you that I am feeling more better, having more success at sleeping at night(which had been a huge issue for me), and enjoying sustained energy throughout the day without the 2:00pm urge to either nap or inject caffeine. The recipes do require purchasing items not on most Americans' shelves, but I have not minded the adjustment for the benefits I am enjoying. Btw, I am down one dress size so far and looking forward to continuing to my ideal weight.
For a long time, I have thought that something about the way modern wheat is grown by the agrobusiness industry is causing increasing numbers of cases of wheat allergy, wheat sensitivity, and celiac disease. This is the first in-depth analysis of exactly what changes have been inadvertently caused by hybridization techniques in the 70s, widely adopted in the 80s. Indeed, that is when the obesity epidemic really took off. I used to be hungry, hungry all the time. It was a really struggle to stay the same weight - I had to be hungry all the time. Since eliminating wheat from my diet, I am feeling much better, have normal appetite, and don't need as much caffeine. My son, who has a seizure disorder, only seems to have seizures after being accidentally exposed to wheat. Even my cat stopped throwing up when I started choosing cat food that didn't have wheat gluten in it. This book explains the biochemistry of why this is so. I highly recommend this book.
After reading Wheat Belly I was finally able to understand how wheat has changed and why it causes so much damage to our bodies. It was alarming. But then I read the Wheat Belly Cookbook and Dr.Davis explains in greater detail how wheat and too many carbohydrates, especially junk carbohydrates damage our bodies. He also gives an enormous amount of information on what to eat that's safe and where to get the ingredients. And as a former gourmet cook I can see just from reading his recipes that they're delicious! Everyone should read this book. I know from my own experience that if people read this their health would
improve drastically. ..... Just so you know, I quit eating wheat before I read Wheat Belly and wasn't trying to lose weight. I lost weight suddenly and couldn't figure it out. After two weeks without wheat I lost the joint pain I was having. I lost the skin rashes and noticed other changes as well. So when I read his book it all made sense.
