Reviews I like Tim Ferriss' style. He's found a way to get paid for investigating his obsessions. The result is a microdetailed, meticulously documented manual for achieving a variety of goals of common interest to most of us. From losing or gaining weight to enhancing athletic performance to holding your breath under water, there is something here for everyone. The best part is that Ferriss' feats are demonstrable, documented and repeatable. If you really, really want to gain 28 pounds and dead lift 500 lbs., you can do it. The flip side, or course, is in his extreme methods. Those attempting to follow in his footsteps should take note he had the luxury of time and resources to devote himself single-mindedly to each extreme pursuit. You can do it too, but not without the same focused effort. For most of us, I think a sprinkling of Ferriss' methods alongside what we're already doing will be the most practical use of this handbook of the extreme. I'm trying out a program used by a track coach to strengthen his athletes, but out of necessity can't devote myself exclusively to it. As a CrossFit athlete, I've got too many modalities to cover to hyper-specialize in just one. Hence I'll experiment on myself as Ferriss has, and see how it goes. I highly recommend this book. There are few writers with as much skin in the game as Ferriss. There's something useful here for just about everyone.

The author has a light, entertaining writing style and he describes a simple but effective method for changing your body and life. I started following the recommended diet in January along with the kettle bell exercises. I am writing this in July and have lost 42 pounds, lowered my blood pressure to 95/65, and am stronger and healthier than I have been since the 1980's. My wife has lost over 15 pounds and also feels healthier. I have recommended the book to several friends who also have similar results IF they have the discipline to stick with the program. I highly recommend this book.

I've been struggling to lose just 10 pounds for my wedding since January using my diet and exercise method that lost me 50 pounds, but after month after month of disappointment, I said, okay, Ferriss, give me the goods! I have followed the slow carb diet and taken 5 cold showers since last Wednesday (1 week, folks), and I have dropped 8 of those stubborn pounds already. If you need to shed pounds, try it! And please try it before you consider any of those terrible surgical solutions! Also, I have continued my usual hour long workouts (dance, pilates or kettlebells with Bob Harper), but I have cut them back to every other day. The one thing that may have skewed my results slightly is my friend's wedding on Friday, during which I danced hard for about 2.5 hours straight...but it was also cheat day, and I had cupcakes and vodka to keep me moving. :) The other experiments he discusses are fun. If you are a science nerd, you will enjoy this book, and you will be motivated to be a guinea pig for a while yourself. Also, to those who think those early reviews are fake reviews, **NEWS FLASH**, people get advanced copies. I looked at the reviews months ago and thought, oh, yeah, it's a load of crap, surely it won't work, surely it is indeed "snake oil" as one reviewer puts it, but my scale doesn't lie...and I don't lie. I'm sorry that I put more faith in the negative nellys back then...I could have already lost 20 or 30 pounds by now!
