Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd. But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for…but she is not Natalie. Whoever the mourning widow is, she’s been married to Todd for almost two decades, and with that fact everything Jake thought he knew about the best time of his life—a time he has never gotten over—is turned completely inside out. As Jake searches for the truth, his picture-perfect memories of Natalie begin to unravel. Mutual friends of the couple either can’t be found, or don’t remember Jake. No one has seen Natalie in years. Jake’s search for the woman who broke his heart, who lied to him, soon puts his very life at risk as it dawns on him that the man he has become may be based on a carefully constructed fiction. This is a page-turning thriller that is completely addictive. The book opens with Jake Sanders watching the love of his love, Natalie, marry another man. Natalie makes him promise to have nothing to do with her and her new husband Todd – no phone calls, no emails, no watching her on Facebook – and for six years he keeps his promise and throws himself into a career as a university professor. But for six years he thinks of her every day, and when he comes across Todd's obituary he considers the promise fulfilled and he decides to go to the funeral so can see Natalie again. But when he meets the mourning widow, it’s not Natalie, but another woman who has been married to Todd for more than a decade. After this Jake finds that all his memories of Natalie begin to unravel as he tries to establish her whereabouts. No one has seen Natalie in six years and mutual friends don’t remember her. This is a brilliant psychological thriller. Is Jake losing his mind? Did he imagine this perfect love affair with this gorgeous artist? Or was Natalie lying to him? Did she really marry Todd, or was it a smokescreen for something else? Is Natalie alive or dead? Convincing himself that Natalie is alive but in danger, he follows a trail of obscure clues that capture the attention of the police and organized crime bosses, putting himself and those around him in danger. But he is determined to reconnect with the love of his life, no matter what. This is a brilliantly plotted novel that will keep you breathless from the original beginning to the fantastic ending. This is really top-notch storytelling, with a memorable lead character you will care about. And rest assured, the mystery of Natalie is resolved at the end.
