Angel expects nothing from men but betrayal. Sold into prostitution as a child she survives by keeping her hatred alive. And what she hates most are the men who use her, leaving her empty and dead inside. Then she meets Michael Hosea. A man who seeks his Father's heart in everything, Michael obeys God's call to marry Angel and to love her unconditionally. Slowly, day by day, he defies Angel's every bitter expectation, until despite her resistance, her frozen heart begins to thaw. But with her unexpected softening come overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear. And so Angel runs. Back to the darkness, away from her husband's pursuing love, terrified of the truth she no longer can deny: Her final healing must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael does ... the One who will never let her go.
Reviews First of all, I love a good, clean romance and I especially love historical fiction. This story is about a girl who had a terrible childhood and was raised as a prostitute during the California gold rush. She is found by a man that was led by God to her and he rescues her from her life of prostitution, even though she doesn't love him back. It is a beautiful love story about forgiveness, trusting in God, forgiving yourself, seeing others as God sees them, and rising above all the terrible things that can happen in life. Highly recommend it! I thought it was interesting, the author was originally a steamy romance novelist who found God, got the rights to all her previous books and made them so they are no longer available because she decided that's not the kind of person she wanted to be any more. I thought it was really commendable.
Wow, such a beautiful story. It really hits hard on how powerful, relentless and redeeming Gods love is. This book isn't like a lot of the christian books out there, it's not too preachy and it's not too secular. If you're looking for a change and something different to read, then i strongly encourage you to pick up this book- along with Francine Rivers other books, she's a fantastic writer, she creates books that make you wanna change and become a better person, I can honestly say her books are quite life changing for me. This is my favorite quote through out the whole book "Love the Lord your God, and love one another. Love one another as he loves. Love with strength and purpose and passion and no matter what comes against you. Don’t weaken. Stand against the darkness, and love. That’s the way back into Eden. That’s the way back to life."
What an amazing book. It was sad, it was beautiful, it was haunting, it was lovely. It waspowerful !
As surprised as I am to say this, this story was by far one of the best books I've ever read. Beautifully written, it pulls the reader in on one breathtaking emotional roller coaster ride. But better than that, this story is a vivid protrayal of what God does for us. 2 Samuel 14:14 (my favorite scripture verse) says this: "Like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be recovered, so we must die. But God does not take away life, instead, He devises ways so that a banished person does not remain estranged from him." God wants all of us to come to a personal relationship with Him and He will put people in our lives and allow events to happen to bring us to Him. For some of us, it takes a lot of events and many people to make us see. For others, maybe not. But, listen, you will hear His, still small voice.
