Read The Last Man PDF by Vince Flynn
Click Here to Download the Book A pulse-pounding thriller by #1 New York Times bestselling phenomenon Vince Flynn, as Mitch Rapp heads to Afghanistan to track down a missing CIA agent. The four dead guards didn’t concern Mitch Rapp as much as the absence of the man they’d been paid to protect. Joe Rickman wasn’t just another foot soldier. For the last eight years Rickman had ran the CIA’s clandestine operations in Afghanistan. It was a murky job that involved working with virtually every disreputable figure in the Islamic Republic. More than a quarter billion dollars in cash had passed through Rickman’s hands during his tenure as the master of black ops and no one with a shred of sense wanted to know the details of how that money had been spent. At first glance it looks as if Rickman has been kidnapped, but Rapp knows certain things about his old friend that cause him to wonder if something more disturbing isn’t afoot. Irene Kennedy, the director of the CIA, has ordered Rapp to find Rickman at all costs. Rapp must navigate the ever-shifting landscape of Afghanistan as the Taliban, Iranians, Pakistanis and Russians all plot to claim their piece of the war torn state. With Afghanistan crumbling around him, Rapp must be as ruthless as his enemies and as deceitful as people in his own government if he has any hopes of completing his mission.
Reviews I have read all of the Mitch Rapp books and have enjoyed every one of them. I saw some reviews that gave this book one star and couldn't believe it. Reasons for one star range from a perceived increase in 'vulgar' language and a scene with a dog toward the end of the book ... the readers thinking that Mr. Flynn did not have to use such language or have the hero do what he did to the dog. I look at this and see 'growth' in the character. Rapp has been in his business for something like 20 years in this book, and I can imagine that after that amount of time in any job, not to mention someone who is working in clandestine operations, that person would become less patient and more syndical. I don’t think Rapp is going to go around and say things like ‘Excuse me, would you mind putting down your gun and telling me all your secrets please?’ Vince Flynn has done it again and continued to grow the Rapp character. I enjoyed the book very much and cannot wait for the next book and/or see Rapp come to the silver screen. If I do have a complaint it would be that paying $11.99 for the Kindle copy does seem rather high … but that does not reflect the quality of work that Mr. Flynn has done with this latest Rapp adventure.
Vince Flynn is still the master of the political action thriller genre. He doesn't disappoint with his latest Mitch Rapp novel. Back to current times, Rapp finds himself in a crisis after one of the CIA's top operatives in the war on terror is kidnapped in Afghanistan. Its a race against time to find him before the USA's most important secrets and spy network is divulged.
I don't want to spoil the plot, so I won't say anymore. If you are a fan of the Mitch Rapp series, The Last Man won't disappoint. If you are new to the series, you will be hooked.
I have really enjoyed every book I have read by Vince Flynn, and this one is no exception. He has a superior knowledge of our clandestine services, and uses this knowledge to add tremendous value to his novels. This particular book shows us the real danger of the fight against terrorism; knowledge unfortunately many in our country just don't understand. During the "Cold War" with the Soviet Union, we and they understood and respected Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD). Out war against radical Islam doesn't have that elemtent, since they not only don't mind dying for Jihad, but actually want to (at the lower levels - the upper levels want the young and impressionable to do the dying.) All I can say is that I truly hope there are such men as Mitch Rapp in our covert services. Our military has no equal, but they are restricted by so many rules of engagement that their effectiveness is limited. The covert services, like our CIA, et al, operate on a level that may offend some, but they are indespensible if we are to win this war. Flynn makes it very clear in his novels, and this one is one of his best yet.
In Mitch Rapp, Vince Flynn has created the quintessential American hero. If you are accustomed to reading politically correct claptrap, than Vince is not your author, as he pulls no punches as far as the threats from Islamic terrorists are concerned. What makes Vince so interesting, I believe, is his insights into the political realm as well as the accuracy of Spec Ops weaponry and warefare. For not only do we track Mitch as he and his fellow Spec Ops Warriors trek all over the world, but we also get to see both sides of the political ramifications of what he is doing. It makes for an entertaining and informative read. I can't wait to see what Mitch Rapp does next.
