In this pulse-pounding and thrillingly sensual novel, New York Times bestselling author Lara Adrian returns to the mesmerizing world of the Midnight Breed, following new characters into a dark future where an uneasy peace can unravel into war—and a great betrayal can mask an all-consuming love. Twenty years after the terror of First Dawn—when mankind learned that vampires lived secretly among them—the threat of violence reigns as the two species struggle to coexist. The only group preserving the fragile harmony is the Order, an elite cadre of Breed warriors dedicated to protecting humans and vampires alike. And in this precarious world of torn loyalties and shattered trust, Mira, a fiery squad captain, finds that every fight bears an intensely personal cost. Raised among the Order, Mira has always believed in the warrior’s code of swift—and even lethal—justice. But the one thing she desires more than the Order’s hard-won acceptance is Kellan Archer, a sexy but troubled Breed fighter. In love with him since childhood, Mira once broke through his tough exterior during an unexpected night of rapture, but the next day he mysteriously disappeared, never to return. Kellan didn’t think he would ever see Mira again—or have to confront the truth of why he left. After abandoning the Order years ago, he now leads a band of human rebels intent on carrying out their own vigilante rule of law. Yet a high-profile kidnapping assignment brings him face-to-face with the past he sought to avoid, and the striking woman he has tried desperately to forget. And as tensions mount and the risk of bloodshed grows, Kellan and Mira must take sides—between the competing missions that dominate their lives, and the electrifying passion that claims their hearts.
Reviews AMAZING! I could not put this book down. It was everything I was hoping for and more. Lara Adrian definitely doesn't disappoint. I love the direction the series is going in and I can't wait to read more. Love, love, LOVED it. I admit I was a bit skeptical about this book. Twenty years is a big time jump and I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about little Mira all of sudden being a adult and trying to obtain her HEA. I shouldn't have worried because this book was amazing. The pain and heartache that Mira experiences with losing Kellan makes my heart hurt. You feel her pain and even though it's been eight years since his death, she still isn't over the loss. She lays the blame for the death of Kellan at the door of rebel fighters. She is convinced it's their fault that Kellan was killed in a warehouse fire eight years ago. It's because of her hatred of the rebels that gets her in trouble and subsequently gets her pulled from active duty. When a chance encounter brings her face to face with the only man she's ever loved and whom she thought was dead, she proceeds to question everything she's ever known or believe about. Kellan has always loved Mira wholeheartedly and wanted nothing but to love her and keep her safe by his side. But when he looks into her eyes and sees a glimpse of their future together, one that doesn't end with a happy ending, he knows in his heart he will do anything he can to protect her. So he leaves and fakes his death in order to keep her safe. Yet, he's never been able to keep himself far away from her. She owns his heart and
soul and he'll never be complete without Mira by his side. Oh how my heart ached while reading this book. There is just so much raw emotion between Mira and Kellan. Your heart breaks for them and you want nothing more than for them to get their long awaited HEA. The love these two feel for one another is raw, intense and in your face. As a reader, you never doubt the love they have for one another for a second. What I love about this book and actually the series as a whole is that it's not predictable and the characters aren't cookie cutter. With this book there are so many twist and turns that I didn't even see coming. Lara Adrian keeps me on my toes and I love that. In my opinion Edge of Dawn is the best in the series and I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to see what next for this series.
Wow, I am totally taken aback by this new installment in Lara Adrian's Midnight breed series. She has taken her original series and not only shaken things up by forwarding 20 years into the future but she's created a new world...New characters, New enemies, New drama, New friendships and romantic relationships. I had never thought something like this could be pulled off so perfectly. Mira, Niko and Renata's adoptive daughter is now 28 years old and a warrior for the order. Kellan Archer, one of the last survivors of his entire family and the only man Mira has ever loved was killed 8 years ago by a rebel bomb. Mira has mourned for him for the last 8 years. When Lucan Thorne sends Mira out on a solo mission (punishment mission if you wanna know the truth) to escort a highly valuable scientist back to D.C. to receive an award at a peace summit being held held to try to ensure both the breed civilians and humans that lasting peace is possible when a string of events leads the order to a whole new set of problems, the first being Mira's kidnapping and the murder of the human scientists that the order (Mira) was sent to protect. Mira is astounded and downright posses when She realizes she was kidnapped by her long lost love Kellan Archer himself, though he goes by the name of Bowman now. Kellan tried to escape his fate 8 long years ago only to now realize that he can't outrun this cruel plan fate has in store he and Mira. Will Mira be able to change the path fate set them on all those years ago? All she knows is that she has to try. She must do everything she can to save her one true love and herself from the pain coming their way.
