Reviews Cassandra Clare told how she was in England sitting in a park plotting for Clockwork Princess and a large worm crawled onto her blanket and she said, "there's going to be a worm in the book." And indeed the book has a large vicious worm attacking the shadowhunters and this is where the book starts out. Tessa shows up to help in her wedding dress and ends up getting blood all over it. Jem takes a turn for the worse and needs more medicine. With Tessa & Jem engaged, Will has to push his love for Tessa aside. More than anything he wants to see his best friend Jem happy. Mortmain is determined to get Tessa for his own evil plan to get revenge on the shadowhunters. When he buys up all the medicine that will keep Jem alive Tessa has to put her life on the line to save the man she loves. There are lots of tie-ins with the Mortal Instrument series through out Clockwork Princess. It made me want to reread the whole series starting with City of Bones. If you don't want the biggest spoiler of all don't read the family tree on the inside flap of the book. I did that. Ugh! Cassandra Clare is a great writer and she intertwines a bizarre supernatural world within our world. This wrapped up the series nicely and it was a great end to The Infernal Devices.
Cassandra Clare is fantastic, this series was incredibly touching, full of action, love, suspense, and heartbreak. I wasn't very fond of the Shadow Hunter Series, it seemed like there are just too many characters and I never really connected to them. With these books I connected with Tessa (its actually my name ha) Will and Jem. I think the last 100 pages I had tears streaming down my face; desperate to finish I fought through my blurry eyes and continued. I think what I truly loved the most was the relationship between Will and Jem. Most stories have love and romance, but Clare took it to the next level and showed you a bond so deep, it literally broke my heart when it was severed. If you ever read this Ms. Clare, thank you for such an amazing story. It was beautiful, a true work
of art. You created characters that were so raw as humans I couldn’t help but fall in love with each one as a real individual. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone, you will be addicted from the very first book, when Will finds Tessa as she tries to escape the Dark Sisters, then meeting the people at the institute and following Tessa into Jems room the first time she hears him playing his violin.
I was very sceptical of The Infernal Devices series because of negative reviews I had previously heard. However I was pleasantly surprised. And I think this book gave a nice conclusion to the series. I imagine I am not the only one who sobbed throughout the Epilogue for it was both heart-breaking and beautiful at the same time. The Epilogue was, in fact, what I was most scared about. While I loved Will dearly and believe he and Tessa were perfect for one another, the conclusion made me go "Oh my, I didn't expect that but yes. I think this will work!" The end was very pleasant and despite my heartbreak over Will, I think the dynamics of Will and Jem's relationship stayed true until the end: Tessa will not be alone, for she had both souls she loved with her— almost. In the end I do find this book deserving of 5 out of 5 because it provided a nice closure. It was a simple and fast read, with some mistakes within but nice nonetheless.
