What Lou doesn't know is she's about to lose her job or that knowing what's coming is what keeps her sane. Will Traynor knows his motorcycle accident took away his desire to live. He knows everything feels very small and rather joyless now and he knows exactly how he's going to put a stop to that. Reviews It's not very often I feel inferior as a writer. But when I think of Me Before You by Jojo Moyes I do. I really really do. I don't mean to sound conceited and I guess the only way to explain is to ask that you when you go into work do you feel confident in what you do? Well when I read a good book I get that buzz of 'Yeah, I can do that too'. I supposed that's my many years of working in a competitive sales environment. But its not very often I read something that completely blows me away... I was blown away to the point that I bought this book TWICE! The battery died on my phone and I couldn't continue reading the digital version I walked into the nearest bookstore and bought the print copy to pick up where I left off because I couldn't wait until I got home! I've been reading romance novels for over fifteen years and no one has ever made me cry, not even my literary romance hero Danielle Steel. And then I read Me Before You ... and gawd... I bawled my eyes out through the final chapters. Almost nine months later the main characters, Lou and Will, and their story has stay with me. I'd rate this one ten stars if I could. It's definitely one of the books at the top of my tell everyone to read list.
William Traynor is a rising Executive and CEO of his own company in London, UK. He is handsome, rich, has traveled around the world, has a beautiful (high maintenance) girlfriend and loves extreme sports like sky diving, bungee jumping, climbing high altitude mountains and such....until 2007. Fast forward to 2009 and William has been bound to a wheel chair for the last 2 years. He is a quadriplegic. Louisa Clark is a coffee shop girl who loses her job at the beginning of the book. To help support her family, she finds a job as a "Carer" in a private home...and this is how Louisa and William meet. Theirs was an impossible relationship from the very start. Moyes keeps you hoping and wishing for a miracle. Because fiction books, much like movies, are supposed have miracles and happy endings. However, the gritty realism and hard truth of life could not be escaped in this poignant novel by Moyes. For some people, love doesn't come until the very end. For some people, love doesn't come until it's too late. "Me Before You" is a stunning novel that makes us question our mortality and how far we will go to keep it...or not. It keeps you on your toes and make you sob your heart out at 3am in the morning. This novel will remind you about the power of choice (and respecting that choice) and how it can change the lives of many, especially the ones you love.
This was my first Jojo Moyes book that I had picked up, something drew me to it in the shop, and let me tell you, I am SO glad I had the opportunity to read this! I have read and heard people saying it is their ‘Book of 2012' and it’s so easy to see why, I can say it is the most touching story I have read in a long time! Will Traynor is a wealthy businessman, a daredevil who travels the world and lives life to the full. He steps out
one morning and is hit by a motorcycle, resulting in his life drastically changing, gone are the women, exotic holidays and fast motors, and instead Will is a paraplegic now dependent on others to care for him. Lou is a girl who has just lost her job, and in sheer desperation, applies to be a carer despite having no experience. Together Will and Lou face the world together with a lot of laughs, and a few tears too. Will and Lou worked so well together, this is not your typical chick-lit love story, far from it, but somehow I felt these two were made for each other, two halves of a whole, they seemed to complete each other. They both get off to a rocky start but I found myself laughing out loud at their adventures, their banter, and shedding a tear or two as their story developed. This is a truly wonderfully written book which touches on many difficult subjects with such sensitivity and knowledge, the struggles with disability and acceptance being prominent. We later move onto another difficult subject, and for those of you who haven’t read it, I won’t spoil it for you. Although this book is a fantastic story, it also leaves you thinking and possibly debating the issues touched upon in this book for many days and weeks later, this story will truly grip you and stay with you long after you have put it down.
