In this pulse-pounding and thrillingly sensual novel, New York Times bestselling author Lara Adrian returns to the mesmerizing world of the Midnight Breed, following new characters into a dark future where an uneasy peace can unravel into war—and a great betrayal can mask an all-consuming love. Twenty years after the terror of First Dawn—when mankind learned that vampires lived secretly among them—the threat of violence reigns as the two species struggle to coexist. The only group preserving the fragile harmony is the Order, an elite cadre of Breed warriors dedicated to protecting humans and vampires alike. And in this precarious world of torn loyalties and shattered trust, Mira, a fiery squad captain, finds that every fight bears an intensely personal cost. Raised among the Order, Mira has always believed in the warrior’s code of swift—and even lethal—justice. But the one thing she desires more than the Order’s hard-won acceptance is Kellan Archer, a sexy but troubled Breed fighter. In love with him since childhood, Mira once broke through his tough exterior during an unexpected night of rapture, but the next day he mysteriously disappeared, never to return. Kellan didn’t think he would ever see Mira again—or have to confront the truth of why he left. After abandoning the Order years ago, he now leads a band of human rebels intent on carrying out their own vigilante rule of law. Yet a high-profile kidnapping assignment brings him face-to-face with the past he sought to avoid, and the striking woman he has tried desperately to forget. And as tensions mount and the risk of bloodshed grows, Kellan and Mira must take sides—between the competing missions that dominate their lives, and the electrifying passion that claims their hearts.
Reviews Lara Adrian, you are amazing! Midnight Breeds has been one of my favorite series for years. I have been a fan since Lucan’s book and I devour them as soon as they’re released. I never thought the series could get better, but it has. Lara Adrian did something so refreshing with this book. Sometimes when a series has as many books in it as Midnight Breeds you start to notice the books become similar—it’s almost like reading a different variation of the same story. I’ve always loved the concept behind the Breeds, but the story carried on much the same way for the first 9 books. Then she shook things up. Edge of Dawn was literally like starting a brand new series, but keeping all the things I loved about the old series. I love where Lara Adrian has taken this story. We have a whole new cast of characters to love, but we still have the familiar ones as well. We still have the same concept for her paranormal world, but she has taken that to a new place. No longer are the Breeds hidden. Humans learn about the existence of vampires and it sparks a war that changes the world as we know it. I loved it. And we have a new bad guy, and that was not at all what I expected. It was such a refreshing change. Oh, and I guess I should mention the romance too since it’s a big part of the story. Kellen and Mira were awesome together. I loved their chemistry, and I loved the trials they had to face to be together. My only
complaint is that I have to wait for the next release.
I’ve been a fan of Lara Adrian and her books the minute I started the Midnight Breed series. So when I found out that Edge of Dawn was coming out I was beyond excited. This is Mira and Kellan’s story. In the last book, Darker After Midnight, the Breed had been exposed to humans and Dragos now eliminated. Edge of Dawn takes place 20 years later and Breed and humans learn to coexist together in this new world. It isn’t so easy though with widespread panic and anarchy everywhere. Together, Breed and human world leaders formed the Global Nations Council whose main goal was to bring peace among the Breed and human races. Mira and Kellan’s story takes place amidst the GNC summit. I enjoyed this book very much. It seemed like there was always something shocking at the end of every chapter. And Adrian mentions previous characters from earlier books in this story and it was exciting to find out more about their offspring and how they are all grown up. I was very much interested with the introduction of new characters as well. I believe the story of the Order will go on for a long time. Not that I’m complaining. I can’t wait for a next one which will surely be another great book considering how this story ended. A new world and a new threat for the Order... a threat clearly even more dangerous than Dragos.
I think this is one of the best in the Midnight Breed Series. It really worked to have a time gap and move onto stories featuring the next generation. The writing and plotting was good. My only moments of unease with the story were around Bowman's initial decision that provided the set up for the story and how he had really been able to justify it to himself once but no longer - it is either not quite rational or a huge weakness in his character. The back story also started getting a little mythological crazy at the end and was dealt with quite abruptly. Having said that I gave it 5 stars because I loved it and felt the characters and plot were handled really well.
