Reviews Never before have I read the ending to a series that made such perfect sense. It hurt a lot when reading this. Mostly it hurt because you know with a love triangle that there is no way everyone can win. It also hurt on a deeper level because of all the death and loss suffering these characters went through. So much happened in the 570 pages. So many heartbreaking things and frustrating things and glorious things. If ever there was a book that made me feel the full spectrum of all my emotions, it would be Clockwork Princess. And all leading up to an ending that only Cassandra Clare could write. In that epilogue, I mourned. I haven't cried like that in a very long time. I really felt it in my soul, just as I'm sure Cassandra Clare intended. I have hopes to see more of Tessa beyond that moment of her in City of Glass where you didn't even know it was her if you weren't paying attention. And others that are still around. Maybe since all that stuff in the epilogue happens after the events in TMI, that they will make an appearance in TDA. That is my hope, anyway.
FINALLY.. a fitting end to a beloved series! I have been disappointed more often than not as of late with sequels and conclusions to series I've invested in ending on a flat or sour note. Clockwork Princess is an exciting conclusion to the Infernal Devices series. Secrets, betrayal, love, loss and a couple of twists that will blow your mind make up the core of this novel. Tessa and Jem are preparing for their wedding when Gabriel Lightwood barrells into the Institute requesting help. From the first page the action is kicked into high gear, and it continues throughout the story, right up until the very end. Mortmain has set his sights on the Shadowhunters that he feels have wronged him. He will stop at nothing to anhialate them all and snatch Tessa for his bride. He unleashes his army of automatons first on the London
Institute, kidnapping Tessa in the process, and then on the Clave itself when Consul Wayland calls an emergency meeting with plans to remove Charlotte as head of the Institute. And poor Jem is getting weaker everyday. Henry enlists the assistance of Magnus Bayne to attempt to find a cure for Jem and help him with his portal design as well. Along the way some of our favorite shadowhunters learn more about not only themselves, but each other. Friendships are forged and forgotten, love is blossoming for some, but coming to a painful end for others. When everything and everyone she has come to love is in danger and lives are at stake, will Tessa be able to find it within herself to defeat Mortmain and his automatons? Or will she become the pawn he intends her to be, and lay waste not only to shadowhunters and downworlders, but the mundane world as well? This book was a full array of emotion for me. I laughed, I cried, I laughed through tears! Non-stop action and a conclusion to a particular storyline that I'm certain we all so coming, but it was still difficult when it finally played itself out. And every time I thought I knew what would happen next, I was thrown for a loop again. I definitely recommend this series and personally, I like the Infernal Devices more so than the Mortal Instruments. 5/5 for sure, I'd give it 10 stars if I could!!
Out of all her books including the two that leads up to this one there is nothing she has written that is so beautiful as the hour of this book. This was one time when i thought the love that was written was pure and beautiful, there is was no abuse to it there was no lack of understanding. I was lust and desire, friendship and understanding. I have always hated the love of twilight, because, well read any comment and review i have posted on it. I have always feared that girls will look upon that sick idea of love and think that is perfect. NO. No Cassandra Clare and summed up what type a person I would want my girls to find. In Jem who is understanding and gentle, in Will how is sarcastic and rude, but loves true. Gabriel how is loyal and proud, also loves whole hearted. Cecily, who will not take the crap but will listen be be there. Every person here is flawed, and everyone is a great example what you should look for. However the Triangle. I could never say i was Team Jem... and in must cases i wouldn't because Jem is similar to the whinny vampires (Stephen, angel, bill, Edward...) but he wasn't whinny, he was written beautifully and my heart ached for him. Nor could i say I am Team Will, who is one that I would have picked because I love this archetype, because i loved Jem so much. And Tessa, I liked tessa as was written.
But the love of Jem and Will was a pure as you would see in relationships like dragon riders or the trills and their symbioses in star trek. The where the twins that never resented each other. Then you have Tess, and you are like, wait how dare she comes between them!! but no, she is the completion of the two. We will never find a relationship like this real life, but you know what. they are magically connected and she is a warlock... they get leeway.
