Here’s How You Can Help Your Service From Being Interrupted: Your safety and our driver’s safety is the number one priority at Wilderness Garbage.

Here are some reminders that you, our customer, need to know: If the weather or road conditions become severe, we will not put people or property at risk. Our trucks may be able to travel the main roads, but due to the size and weight, may not be able to navigate your street or driveway. WE CANNOT PUT DRIVERS OR TRUCKS AT RISK.

It is the discretion of the route driver whether to drive down a street or driveway. If our truck cannot pick up your garbage, we will pick up double your service amount the following week.

Bronchiectasis involves a continuous productive cough due to an infection. There is blockage of the airways as well as inflammation of the airways. Wheezing, difficulty breathing, and chest pain are symptoms of this condition. Bronchiectasis occurs more commonly in women, and the risk of being affected by the condition increases with age. Cystic fibrosis is a medical condition that can lead to bronchiectasis. Cigarette smoking may also increase the risk of this condition. Antibiotics may be prescribed for treatment of coughing episodes and to reduce the risk for another infection. Fluoroquinolone antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin, may be used. Tobramycin (Tobi) is an inhaled antibiotic that may also be prescribed. These medications may also be taken at the same time. Inhaled glucocorticoids, such as fluticasone (Flovent), may be used to reduce inflammation of the airways. For those also affected by cystic fibrosis, dornase alfa (Pulmozyme) may be prescribed. It works to decrease the thickness of mucus, which allows air to flow better through the lungs. Persons with the condition also may be affected by gastroesophageal reflux. A proton pump inhibitor, such as omeprazole (Prilosec), or an H2 blocker, such as cimetidine (Tagamet), may be used for suppression of stomach acid.

Mike’s Tires in Sunriver ready with tips for the season… Tye Voyles, owner

56845 Venture Lane, Sunriver, OR 97707 mikestiresunriver@gmail.com 541.593.2554 After a visit to Sunriver Business Park’s Mike’s Tires, it does not take long to see why Tye Voyles is doing very well! He is a member of both La Pine and Sunriver Chambers and he has made contributions to both organizations in terms of time and product to help them both. I made a bid on one of the Silent Auction baskets that included a generous donation by Mike’s Tires and I made an appointment to go there and check the place out - as a Chamber staff and also as a potential customer. During the time I was in the waiting room, a half dozen different folks strolled through the front doors and were greeted by name, by Mr. Voyles. The shop is modern and clean and it does not smell weird like so many places, because he has the waiting room set up for the customers who will do just that - wait! Coffee, tea or water is there for the thirsty customers and the schedule is kept to a strict timing so people get served when they expect to and out before they get antsy! Tye Voyles, the owner, is a tall, friendly man with a big smile. He took over Mike’s a year ago and is working hard to make sure that his customers come back to see him! He has a few suggestions about car care that seem right for this time of year and he would like to share them with you: 1. Make an appointment to come in and change out the snow tires now, so you don’t have to wait. 2. In terms of getting ready for spring, there is more to do besides getting the regular shoes back on your buggy! a. Oil Changes b. Fluid Checks c. New Wipers for the windows d. Alignment e. Checking the brakes f. Tune-ups g. Cleaning and detailing your ride for the upcoming season When it comes to car care, a little forethought can save time and money later. Tye can help you with most of the list and his estimates are given gladly when it comes time for new tires and service that he is able to perform. For a good solid relationship with a friendly tire man, come and see Tye Voyles at Mike’s Tires in Sunriver. You will be glad you did!

OBITUARY

Mary Roseanna Burnett Heavilin May 11, 1918 - March 10, 2014

Mary Roseanna Burnett Heavilin passed away at home, peacefully, in her sleep. March 10, 2014. Mary was the fifth child of nine children of Stewart Lester and Rosa Bell Beyers Burnett. She was born in Orland, CA. After Mary was born the family moved to a farm on Miller Island, near Klamath Falls, OR, where Mary grew up. She had many happy times and had wonderful memories of her life on Miller Island. Mary attended school at Midland, OR. Mary met Oral Ralph Heavilin (Slim) while he was working at a Safeway Store in Klamath Falls. After a short romance and courtship they married, September 12, 1937. The newlyweds lived in Klamath Falls where they built their dream home. While living in Klamath Falls they were blessed with three children: Danny, Dolores, and Jack. In 1956 Mary and Oral (Slim) traded their home in Klamath Falls for a ranch on the Westside, near Lakeview, OR, where they raised sheep and cattle. Oral and Mary worked the ranch and also ran the meat department for the Oregon Food Store (Mayfair). Oral was the butcher and Mary worked the counter and wrapped meat. In 1967 they sold their ranch on Westside and bought a ranch at Fort Rock, OR. Mary and Slim worked side by side on the Fort Rock Ranch (701) raising cattle and growing alfalfa hay. In her life time, Mary was involved with 4-H, Home Extension, PTA, and the Cowbells. Mary was a very outgoing, friendly and caring person, and it can be said that she never met a stranger. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Slim (2004), and five of her brothers and sisters. Mary is succeeded by her children: Danny and Pat Heavilin of Arcata, CA. Dolores and Arvid Freiberg of Springfield, OR and Jack and Cheril Heavilin or Fort Rock, OR. There will be a graveside service held at the Fort Rock Cemetery , Fort Rock, OR, on April 5th at 1:00pm. Wells Fargo Donates $25,000 To Spur Job Creation A $25,000 grant from Wells Fargo to Central Oregon Community College will help facilitate business growth and create 12 to 13 jobs in Jefferson and Crook counties. The college will allocate the funds to its Small Business Development Center, which works with local entrepreneurs through its Small Business Portable Assistance Project. The center provides management and technical assistance to business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs through workshops and no-cost, one-on-one consulting. The grant is part of $1.7 million awarded by Wells Fargo through its Rural Investment for Sustainable Economies (RISE) program. The grants assist organizations and programs in Oregon, Washington, California and Alaska that support workforce development and job creation. “Creating jobs is one of the most effective ways to improve our economy. These funds will help people in rural Central Oregon find work, which has multiple benefits for the community,” said Steve Curley, director of COCC’s Small Business Development Center. Wells Fargo also donated a $25,000 RISE grant to the nonprofit Neighborhood Economic Development Corporation in Springfield, Oregon, for job creation in rural Lane County. “Wells Fargo understands the importance of workforce development and helping create sustainable communities that have been hard hit with unemployment,” said James Weber, Wells Fargo’s Community Banking district manager for Central Oregon. “These grants will go a long way to reinforce the efforts of these organizations as they focus on helping entrepreneurs and creating jobs in our communities.” Wells Fargo selected the RISE grant recipients based on their ability to deliver effective workforce development programs; their history of providing measurable, effective programs in their community; their sound fiscal management practices; their proven experience and skills of the management team and program staff; and their ability to accurately analyze program effectiveness. Serving Oregonians since 1852, Wells Fargo is a diversified, community-based financial services company. It provides banking, insurance, investments, mortgage, and consumer and commercial finance through more than 9,000 stores; 12,000 ATMs; and the Internet. Last year Wells Fargo was named the most generous company in America and the most generous bank in Oregon. For information, contact Steve Curley at 541-318-3766.

WHAT IS PARVO?

Parvovirus is a highly contagious intestinal disease that is transmitted through feces and the ground; the virus can remain in an area for long periods of time, infecting other dogs easily. Parvo is prevalent in the spring and also in the fall because damp soil transmits the disease easier than dry soil. Symptoms of parvo include vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, fever, and listlessness. Parvo can be fatal due to severe dehydration or a weak immune system. Seek veterinary care immediately if you think your dog has parvo. Most boarding and day care facilities require vaccination to prevent the spread of the disease. Vaccination is the best way to prevent an infection!

PacificSource Foundation for Health Improvement to expand the Living Well with Chronic Conditions Program to include a new Diabetes SelfManagement curriculum. The goal of this new program is to share knowledge and provide tools to people with diabetes, helping them to better manage their disease, improve their health, and use fewer medical services. Chronic Disease Self-Management Programs, such as Oregon’s Living Well (With Chronic Conditions) Program, are a proven, evidence-based intervention for addressing the needs of vulnerable populations who incur the highest medical costs and use the most services. The Living Well with Chronic Conditions Program, sponsored by Living Well Central Oregon, is designed to complement and enhance medical treatment and disease management. Through the series of classes offered fall through spring, participants learn what they can do to feel better proactively to manage their symptoms more effectively. Prevalence of diabetes among persons on the Oregon Health Plan is 13 percent compared to 7.2 percent overall for the State of Oregon. It is estimated that on average, people with diabetes have medical expenditures that are about 2.3 times higher than patients with other chronic diseases. The new Diabetes Self-Management Program will be implemented by Deschutes County Health Services, community partners, and Healthcare Providers throughout Central Oregon. For more information about the Diabetes and other Self-Management Programs, please visit www.livingwellco.org or contact Deschutes County Health Educator Therese Madrigal at 541-322-7446.

Colorectal Cancer Screenings Available Now, Can Save Lives Deschutes County Health Services, St. Charles Health System, and the Oregon Health Authority are partnering to encourage local residents over age 50 to get screened for colorectal cancer. The Cancer You Can Prevent campaign takes a unique approach to a colorectal cancer screening by asking already screened Central Oregonians to talk about their experience and encourage others to get screened too. “If you’ve been screened, you can play a significant role in saving the lives of people you care about by talking about your experience and urging others to get screened,” said Deschutes County Healthy Communities Coordinator, Therese Madrigal. Five Deschutes County residents have agreed to be campaign spokespeople, willing to share their experiences to encourage and support others getting screened too. Carson Meyer of Sisters, Corinne Martinez of La Pine; Cornelius “Mac” McCormick, Cindy Pierce, and Jeff Johnson of Bend, are all valued champions giving local inspiration to the campaign. See their stories at www. thecanceryoucanprevent.org. Colorectal cancer is the second most deadly form of cancer but it doesn’t have to be. Early detection can prevent or catch it early when it’s most treatable. Everyone over age 50 (45 for African Americans) should be screened for colorectal cancer, even if they have no family history or symptoms and most insurance plans cover 100 percent of screening costs with no co-pays or deductibles. To learn more about early detection, resources, and prevention measures, go to www.TheCancerYouCanPrevent.org or visit one of St. Charles Health System campuses anytime between 11:00am- 2:00pm on the following dates for information on why, when, how and where to get screened for colorectal cancer: St. Charles Madras, Monday, March 24; St. Charles Prineville, Wednesday, March 26. For more information please contact St. Charles Colorectal Screening Coordinator, Jessica Keegan at jmkeegan@ stcharleshealthcare.org.
