Welcome
A Message from Dr. Ken Fisher
President of the WLHS Conference
New Mercies in a New School Year
We have entered a new school year filled with much that is new: a new principal, a new constitution and by-laws, and a new schedule.
Do you know that we’ve had only six principals in the last 70 years since officially becoming Wisconsin Lutheran High School in 1954?
Mr. Landon Zacharyasz is our new principal this school year. He’s a young, energetic, and inspiring leader.
We pray that his faith and gifts will profoundly impact the next generation of students and staff. His passion for Christ-centered education and commitment to serving our diverse student body and their families will be invaluable to our students as they grow in their faith, achieve academic success, and prepare to be productive members of society.
That’s not all that’s new. After three years of scriptural study and discussion, the WLHS Conference overwhelmingly approved (82%) a new constitution and by-laws in June. This was in response to the desire to make greater use of women’s God-given gifts in keeping with the interdependent partnership God created males and females to enjoy.
It does permit women to serve on the Board of Directors alongside men, overseen by an all-male fivemember Executive Committee, and as Congregational Representatives, replacing the current role of Delegates.
While the issuance of divine calls and matters of Christian discipline of any called workers remains under the authority of the Executive Committee, it is our earnest prayer that this change provides a God-pleasing, scripturally faithful way for WELS women and men to serve the mission of WLHS together.
From the perspective of staff and students, the biggest change for 2024-25 is a new daily schedule, which increases flexibility, lengthens instructional time, and seeks to lower student stress. While still being able to take the same number of courses, students have five to six classes (instead of seven) each day because of a six-day rotation. A daily “flex” period also gives them time to get help from individual teachers, attend meetings, or do other group activities.

So many changes. But do you know what gives me confidence that God will bless all that’s “new” this school year? The same LORD, who has rained mercies on Wisconsin Lutheran High School since 1903, remains faithful to his promises centered in Christ — “his compassions never fail” (Lamentations 3:22).
Confident of new mercies every day,
Rev. Dr. Kenneth Fisher President of WLHS
Meet Principal Landon Zacharyasz
This July, Mr. Landon Zacharyasz joined WLHS as the school’s sixth principal.
The Zacharyasz Family
Mr. Zacharyasz, along with his wife and four children, moved from Appleton and together the family has been getting to know the area and Wisco
Since arriving at WLHS, Mr. Zacharyasz, who is energetic and loves establishing relationships, has been impressed.
“One of the things I immediately noticed was the passion that WLHS teachers have for the ministry. Their dedication to teaching students and helping them grow in their academic and spiritual lives is abundantly clear,” says Zacharyasz.
Prior to WLHS, Zacharyasz served and led at Mount Olive Lutheran School in Appleton for thirteen years and also served as the Fox Valley Lutheran Schools president for six years. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Martin Luther College (MLC) and is currently working on his Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Educational Leadership from the Milwaukee School of Engineering – Rader School of Business.

Expanded Offerings from Student Services
During the past few years, the WLHS Student Services department has expanded and updated the services it provides. The department has faculty and staff, personal counseling, career-based learning experiences, and new digital tools to support students’ post-secondary readiness and success.
Academic and Career Plan
Every WLHS student is paired with a school counselor who guides them through an Academic and Career Planning process. The goal is for students to complete the planning independently so they take ownership in preparing for their future. Throughout their four years at WLHS, they engage in a variety of assignments and learning activities to gain knowledge, explore options, and create a “next steps” plan they can implement after graduating.
New Academic and Career Planning Platform
As of this school year, WLHS is using Xello, a robust academic and career planning system that helps students create a roadmap for their future. Based on their post-high school plans, Xello assigns students interactive lessons and activities that help them develop the knowledge and skills they’ll need once they graduate.
College and Career Readiness
New Career and Work-based Learning Platform
InspireWI is a digital platform that shares career and work-based learning experiences. It’s a valuable resource for students and families to access as they consider components for their Academic and Career Plan. Donor Advised Funds
On October 10, 2024, we celebrated the first Donor Advised Fund Day with a goal of educating our alumni and friends on the power of a donor advised fund (DAF). Donor advised funds are a great way to support your favorite charities for years to come while also receiving immediate tax benefits. They are just one creative way you can bless a cause, such as WLHS, with a financial gift.
Giving through a DAF is simple, but you should always discuss specifics with your financial advisor. A donor takes a sum of money, such as a bonus from work, and sets up a DAF at a sponsoring organization. You receive immediate tax benefits from putting money into a DAF. You then work with your sponsoring organization to give money from your DAF each year to the charity of your choice.
The Wisconsin Lutheran High School Foundation works to support Christian education and all of the amazing things happening at WLHS. We are investing in the future of the high school through student scholarships, resources for faculty and staff, and program enhancements. None of this could be possible without your financial backing. Donor advised funds are one of the ways you can partner with WLHS to support students and we encourage you to speak to your financial advisor about your options. Thank you for your prayers and continued support of Christian education, specifically at Wisconsin Lutheran High School.
