PUBLISHER’S CORNER LET’S KEEP FIGHTING FOR OUR RIGHTS The recent terrorist attack by an IS sympathizer during Berlin’s Pride celebration reminds us that visibility, equality, and safety can never be taken for granted. This peaceful Pride gathering was transformed into terror when a van was driven into a crowd and people were also attacked with a large bladed weapon. A woman lost her life, and several Pride attendees suffered terrible injuries just for participating in an annual celebration of our LGBTQ community in Berlin. Pride events exist because LGBTQ people were once forced into silence, denied protection, criminalized, and subjected to violence with little public concern. They remain necessary because those dangers have obviously not disappeared. The attack in Berlin was aimed not only at individuals gathered in one place, but at the freedom to assemble, to be visible, and to live without fear that our LGBTQ community keeps fighting for. This is why protecting LGBTQ rights is not a symbolic exercise or a matter of politics. Strong civil-rights protections shape how police respond to threats, how governments secure public gatherings, how schools confront hatred, and how institutions treat violence directed at our community. When society clearly affirms that LGBTQ lives possess equal dignity, it becomes harder for warning signs to be ignored and easier for threatened people to seek help. Equal protection can prevent violence, strengthen public safety, and literally save lives. We must continue fighting for our rights and liberties. Our response must be solidarity, vigilance, democratic participation, and a resolute insistence that every LGBTQ person deserves safety. We must defend Pride, challenge dehumanizing rhetoric, support survivors, and demand that authorities take credible threats against members of our community seriously. While progress is real, what our community has achieved is neither permanent nor self-sustaining. Every right we enjoy survives because someone is willing to defend it. In this hour of grief for the victims of Berlin Pride, we must recommit ourselves to fight on. I extend my deepest condolences to the loved ones of the lady whose life was taken, and my heartfelt sympathy to every injured victim, their families, and all those whose lives were forever changed by this senseless terrorist attack during Berlin Pride. Sincerely,
Rafa Carvajal Publisher & Editor in Chief rafa@wiremag.com

FIVE NUTRITION-BOOSTING TIPS TO SPREAD PROTEIN THROUGHOUT THE DAY Most Americans are eating enough protein. They’re just eating it wrong. Protein is the macronutrient of the moment – for muscle building, losing weight and staying strong – but nutrition researchers say two things are missing from the conversation: timing and quality. Spreading protein intake across the day produced about 25% greater muscle protein synthesis, even when the total daily intake was identical, according to research published in the Journal of Nutrition. “Your muscles don’t have a bank account,” said Chris Mohr, PhD, RD, performance nutritionist. “You can’t deposit all your protein at one meal and expect your body to save it for later.” Most researchers point to a target of about 30 grams of highquality protein per meal to maximize muscle protein synthesis in most adults. However, grams aren’t everything. The source matters just as much. “Aim to get most of your protein from whole, nutrient-dense foods rather than relying on powders, bars and snacks that don’t have much else to offer,” Mohr said. “Supplements have their place but they should build on a real-food foundation, not replace it.”
Layer in protein at lunch. A salad with grilled chicken, a turkey and cheese wrap or a grain bowl with edamame and hardboiled eggs can hit the 30-gram target. Make snacks count. Use cottage cheese as a base for dips or keep hard-boiled eggs on hand for quick, protein-rich options. Or, in just seven minutes when time is of the essence, you can prepare Air Fryer Cottage Cheese Toast with a delicious drizzle of hot honey. Treat dinner as a cap, not a catchup. By evening, protein intake should already be well distributed. Try a moderate portion of fish, lean meat or legumes alongside vegetables. Eat slow-digesting protein before bed. Studies show consuming casein protein before sleep – the slow-digesting protein found naturally in dairy – supports overnight muscle repair. One-half cup of cottage cheese or a glass of milk before bed is a practical, evidence-backed way to put science to work. To find more protein-rich solutions to power your day, visit MULUProtein.com. Tart Cherry Cottage Cheese Smoothie Recipe Servings: 2 1 cup MULU low-fat cottage cheese, 1 frozen banana, peeled, 3/4 cup frozen tart cherries, 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed, 1 cup low-fat milk, 1 tablespoon nut butter, and water.

Quality comes down to amino acids – specifically, whether a source contains all nine essential ones the body can’t produce on its own. Animal proteins (dairy, eggs, meat, fish) check that box. Many plant proteins don’t and tend to be lower in leucine, the amino acid most critical for triggering muscle growth. Dairy is especially rich in leucine. Mohr recommends a source of dairy at every meal, including milk, Greek yogurt or cottage cheese. He suggests cottage cheese with the highest levels of protein, such as MULU cottage cheese that contains 18 grams of protein per serving – one-third more than the leading brand.
In a blender, blend cottage cheese, banana, cherries, ground flaxseed, milk and nut butter on high speed until completely smooth, 45-60 seconds. If your smoothie is too thick, add water, 2 tablespoons at a time, and blend to preferred texture. Pour into two glasses and serve or pour into a sealed jar or container and refrigerate overnight; stir or shake well before drinking. Nutritional information per serving: 310 calories; 35 g carbohydrates; 22 g protein; 10 g fat.
Additionally, Mohr offers these tips to spread protein intake throughout the day: Start with a protein anchor. Build your morning meal around protein, such as scrambled eggs with cottage cheese or a Tart Cherry Cottage Cheese Smoothie with nut butter. 16 WIREMAG.COM #7 2026

Why you need dental insurance in retirement. Many Americans are fortunate to have dental coverage for their entire working life, through employer-provided benefits. When those benefits end with retirement, paying dental bills out-of-pocket can come as a shock, leading people to put off or even go without care. Simply put — without dental insurance, there may be an important gap in your healthcare coverage. When you’re comparing plans ...
Medicare doesn’t pay for dental care.1
Previous dental work can wear out.
f Look for coverage that helps pay for major services. Some plans may limit the number of procedures — or pay for preventive care only.
That’s right. As good as Medicare is, it was never meant to cover everything. That means if you want protection, you need to purchase individual insurance.
Even if you’ve had quality dental work in the past, you shouldn’t take your dental health for granted. In fact, your odds of having a dental problem only go up as you age.2
f Look for coverage with no deductibles. Some plans may require you to pay hundreds out of pocket before benefits are paid. f Shop for coverage with no annual maximum on cash benefits. Some plans have annual maximums of $1,000. 1
Early detection can prevent small problems from becoming expensive ones. The best way to prevent large dental bills is preventive care. The American Dental Association recommends checkups twice a year.
Treatment is expensive — especially the services people over 50 often need. Consider these national average costs of treatment ... $274 for a checkup ... $299 for a filling ... $1,471 for a crown.3 Unexpected bills like this can be a real burden, especially if you’re on a fixed income.

DINING ON DELICIOUS, HIGH-QUALITY HANDMADE PASTA Pasta is owned by acclaimed Peruvian Chefs and husbandand-wife team Juan Manuel Umbert and Janice Buraschi of their Lima-based flagship Pasta restaurant. Chef Luis Jose Arana is the head chef of Pasta Miami. Chef Umbert points out that “we will remain focused on what elevated our success. Our love for the pureness of Italian cuisine and our Peruvian roots. I literally grew up making pasta in my family's business. As a young boy I carried sacks of flour to the third floor of our factory where we had large pasta making machines. I helped some of our employees make the pasta and cut it as it came out of the machine. We then hung the pasta on wood rods in the drying racks that we would then roll over to the drying rooms. So, I am someone who loves pasta. Having eaten pasta in many restaurants, I was extremely impressed by the quality of the pastas we enjoyed at the appropriately named restaurant in Wynwood call Pasta. The food was delicious and it was fun seating at the counter by the open kitchen watching the staff make the pastas and other dishes right in front of us. The handmade pasta and artisanal menu of this popular eatery is rooted in simplicity with highquality ingredients. Visiting this restaurant was a delightful dining experience that you should try. You can also take advantage of Pasta’s ‘Pasta-Making Class & Dinner’ every Wednesday at 6 p.m. hosted by head Chef Luis Jose. During the hands-on experience you will learn mixing, kneading, shaping, and saucing. Your tickets include one welcome cocktail per guest, pasta as part of the pasta making class, appetizer and dessert. Buon appetito!
For our dinner at Pasta, we started with a Red Sangria, an Amalfi 75; and the Housemade Stracciatella with sourdough, and Yellowfin Tuna Tartare with aji amarillo, and egg yolk ‘bottarga’ as our appetizers. Our scrumptious entrées were the Taglierini with Anchovies, with peperoncino, garlic and pangrattato; and the Peruvian Corn Cappellacci with brown butter and Pecorino Romano. For the dessert, we satisfied our sweet tooth with the Crema Volteada and Tarta de Quesos. A couple of other entrées that caught my eye were a delectable Pici Cacio e Pepe and Pappardelle with 12-Hour Braised Beef Cheek Ragú. Photo By Pasta
