Renewables: RES Group The Challenge

The Solution

RES Group is one of the world’s leading renewable energy companies, with considerable expertise in the development, construction and operation of renewable energy generation projects. Its portfolio includes on and offshore wind, solar, energy storage, transmission and demand-side technologies.

Wireless CCTV were proud to offer a bespoke, cost effective and environmentally friendly solution to RES’s security needs at Woolley Hill Farm, which has now been utilised on a number of their UK wind farms during the construction phase.

Woolley Hill Wind Farm in Huntingdonshire, comprises four 2.5 megawatt turbines, a control building and associated infrastructure.

The Eco-Tower comprises a high definition, adjustable camera mounted on a tower that is powered by a 72 hour battery pack, allowing the generator to charge the Eco-Towers during the site’s operational hours.

Located on private farmland off the A14, the site is remote from housing and required a reliable, environmentally friendly and cost-effective 24 hour security solution.

This enables the generator to be turned off during down time, minimising energy wastage and helping to keep the project as green and sustainable as possible.

The Quote

RES Group is now using the WCCTV EcoTower to monitor the Woolley Hill site from a central station. If any movement is detected it automatically generates an alarm back to the control room where an operative can view live video and can pan, tilt and zoom the camera to ascertain what caused the alarm.

“I am very happy with the quality surrounding both the products and services provided by WCCTV. The Eco-Tower has enabled us to keep the project as sustainable as possible whilst keeping costs low, and has successfully detected and prevented disruption and intrusion at our sites.”

If an intruder is detected, an audio challenge can be issued by the monitoring station; if this does not dissuade the intruder then the police or a locally placed key holder are contacted.

If potential illegal activity is identified, an audio challenge is issued to the suspect by the monitoring station. If this does not dissuade the offender, the police are alerted. WCCTV’s Tower systems can be powered by mains, wind and solar or fuel cell technology. They are equipped with anti-vandal and anti-tamper technologies while GPS tracking allows operatives to view their exact location.
