winter matter of time

I first discovered Swedish band Winter when they were supporting Eve Selis on a UK tour in 2007 and was instantly struck by their dynamic sound, their onstage presence and their tall and dynamic singer and guitarist, AnnaLena Winter. After the release of their self-titled debut album in 1999 they followed the usual format of playing clubs and festivals but realized that to gain more recognition the second album had to be something special and they decided to set their sights high. Several contacts were made with possible producers they would like to work with and to their surprise legendary producer Malcolm Burn who had worked with Bob Dylan and had also received a Grammy for the Emmylou Harris release RED DIRT GIRL contacted the band. So during the winter of 2001, Winter travelled to Malcolm’s New York studios and the resulting album MILLION MILES was released in the autumn of 2002. The album had a very ‘live’ sound, just what was needed and certainly not over produced, no gimmicks or sound effects, rough and ready with a healthy dose of strut and swagger. The sound created could best be described as a mix of the more rootsy aspects of The Rolling Stones, the arena grandness of U2, mixed with the subtleness of the alt-country genre. Two years later in 2004 Winter decided to return to their roots, wanting to record

the follow up back home in Sweden, they liked the home grown feel and wanted to create something more organic and meaningful. TEN SONGS was the result and it was quite simply, ten quality songs. Each song stood up for itself and the release covered many musical genres, rock, Americana along with a hint of pop. The success of TEN SONGS gained a lot of media interest across Europe and beyond, the band building a healthy fan base in the UK due to regular touring and festival appearances that would include the inaugural Maverick festival in 2008. The above short biography leads us right up to date with what you now hold in your hands. A MATTER OF TIME is a collection of eleven new songs from the pen of AnnaLena Winter, complete with new guitarist Fredrik Lidin who completes the current line-up along with original rhythm section, Abbe Abrahamsson on drums and bassist Johan Stromberg. The eleven songs are all on the theme of love in all of its guises, the good and the bad along with a healthy dose of lust and longing. These are songs from the heart of AnnaLena Winter, for the heart of the listener, just sit back and enjoy. James Soars

Matter of time

Face on the wall

Cccc’mon

I think it’s time, I think it’s time My baby’s coming back I know it’s right, I know it’s right My baby’s coming back My baby’s coming back to me

I heard it on the radio I recognized your voice You sang a song about making love not war

Come a little bit closer and let me make you feel so good and so fine Just a little bit closer and I’ll show you what I’ve got on my mind

I was on a bus I was on my way home like so many other nights before

It’s so funny how my feelings are running up and down and round and out inside Every minute of the day, every night I got you on my mind

Long time lost, long time of lost Falling into the deep Long time lost, long time of lost Falling into deep Falling into the deep [chorus]

It’s a matter of time It’s a matter of time, you see It’s a matter of time It’s a matter of life, to me What did I say, what did I say That drove you far away What did I do, what did I do I ain’t got a clue What did I do, why did you go [chorus]

[chorus]

Ahhhh, you’re a face A face on the wall We were lovers for a long, long time It was me and you But we didn’t make it all way through I was ready to settle down but you were on your way There were so many things you had to do [chorus]

two one

See me standing here in flames It must be 200 degrees It’s a cruel and wicked game See me down I’m down on my knees I know it’s time, I know it’s time My baby’s coming back to me

I still live in the same old house It’s old and grey and worn but it’s got a breathtaking view

I repainted the kitchen chairs I sold off some stuff The only thing I can’t erase is you [chorus]

Close your eyes and I’ll take you for a ride Ride round my world and everything will be so fine

three

Come tonight, come tonight and I will wrap you in my arms and make you feel so fine [chorus]

Cccccc’mon now, cccc’mon now Hey, come on Oh, come on

Come a little bit closer and I’ll whisper you a secret that I’ve got A little bit closer, I’ve made my mind up Hold on tight, hold on tight, I will whisper in your ear a secret that I’ve got [chorus]

Come closer and I’ll make you feel like a hurricane up and down and round and out inside Come a little bit closer

Book of Love

Crazy

Real gone

I know we do all we can To find a woman, find a man Someone to stay closer to Someone who says I love you

You really get me going, you drive me wild Just a look, just a smile Everything you say and every little thing you do Just makes me want some more of you And it drives me crazy, crazy about you

So long, so long Been waiting here for you for so long

This is what it´s all about It gives us hope, it gives us doubts Gives us everything we need Everything and it’s for free But when you wrote the book of love You forgot the chapter of Broken hearts and hearts of steel Love can kill you love can heal Anytime you know it´s real Love can hurt you ´til you cry Love can make you stay alive Lead you through until you die Leave you in a blink of an eye So wish us luck and wish us well On our way on nowhere road It may lead us straight to hell It may be the way to go We´ll be there before we know

four

You make me talk in a way I don’t I say I will when I won’t Words falling from my mouth like a language I don’t know No one makes me speak the way you do And it drives me crazy, crazy about you

five

Your kisses taste better than anything else that I’ve tried They’re soft and they’re hot and they’re melting the ice inside The love that you give makes me a little bit high Makes me want some more and some more and more…

You make me move a special way A kind of dance, kind of strange Everybody says I’ve got a different kind of style I say I know and it’s mine And it drives me crazy, crazy about you

A while, a short while Time stood still for a while In time, in time Everything we do is in time Everywhere I go I see your face I can’t stop wondering where you are Everywhere they play our favourite song Such an attraction from that weeping guitar [chorus]

I’m gone, I’m real, real gone Just a little kiss Oh, I’m gone Away, so far away I want to take you far far away So stay, come and stay I need you really close, come and stay Everywhere I go I see your face I can’t stop wondering where you are Everywhere they play our favourite song Such an attraction from that weeping guitar [chorus]

A minute away

Pretender

Run

Over and over

Say, say it in your way Let your sweet melody sing out my name Blow, blow wind blow Bring me the message I’ve waited for

Life is a mystery, life is a show You’ve got a ticket for the first row Come let me lead you to the unknown Close your eyes, come on let’s go

Forever, since I was a baby I’ve been thinking maybe There will come a day

I’m gonna try to make a change Get rid of all bad habits I made Too much of everything can be great Another day and I just failed

But I couldn’t wait I tried to hold back, and behave Now I’m on my way Just a minute away, minute away a minute away from you

I’m gonna guide you through the stars Across the universe we’re passing Mars Hang on and glide in my big red balloon I’m the first girl on the moon

Some, sometimes I lay I lay awake all night, and it’s ok Close, you’re so close So real, I can nearly touch your face But I want to feel Your breath, your lips, your fingertips Your arms around my neck I’m just a minute away, minute away a minute away from you I couldn’t wait I tried to hold back, and behave Now I’m on my way I’m just a minute away, minute away a minute away from you

seven

[chorus]

Believe me, cause I’m a pretender Believe me I’m a long way, long way Long way from home

eight

No flowers, no cars No children, no bars Nowhere to go to and just sit and talk Just a funny way to walk [chorus]

nine

When I can look into the mirror Get rid of the horror And feel that I’m ok [chorus]

I’m gonna run, run away Run away from hurt, from the pain I’m gonna find a place Where I cannot be found And later when it’s gone, long gone I’m gonna try to carry on Maybe I’ll find someone Words, hit me like a knife I thought it was all right Cause I was raised on lies Tears, always filled my eyes But you never saw me cry I kept it all inside

No mornings, no nights No music, no lights There’s really nothing to do for the first girl on the moon

[chorus]

[chorus]

[chorus]

Still, I am thinking maybe I’m still thinking maybe There will come a day

I killed my darlings one by one I’ll try to stop falling in love I hear your voice and I’m real gone My promises they fade away [chorus]

I do it over and over Over and over again It makes me happy, in a good mood Don’t wanna change even if I could Why is it bad when it feels so good I never ever understood [chorus]

Too much of everything is great Don’t think I wanna make a change Why is it bad when it feels so good I never ever understood [chorus]
