Graduate Diploma in Teaching English to Speaker of Other Languages School of Education

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN TEACHING ENGLISH IN NEW ZEALAND OR OVERSEAS? The Graduate Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Grad Dip TESOL) qualification (incorporating the Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Grad Cert TESOL) exit award) is designed to train people to work with people learning English as a second or additional language. The programme is suitable for trained teachers working in primary, secondary and tertiary education, as well as those with little or no teaching experience, including university graduates and others who are interested in working in this field. The Grad Cert TESOL qualification can be completed in one semester full-time, or over one or two years parttime. Complete a further two modules (full-time in one semester, or part-time over one year) to gain the Grad Dip TESOL qualification.

INFORMATION AND INTERVIEWS Grad Cert TESOL applicants who do not have a professional teaching qualification for registration as a teacher in New Zealand are required to attend an interview and complete a language awareness task to demonstrate written literacy and language analysis skills at a level suitable for classroom language teaching. The first hour of this interview will be a group discussion where you will be given the opportunity to find out more about the programme, and ask questions. During the second hour of this interview you will need to complete a task. This task must be completed by all non-trained teacher applicants. New Zealand registered teachers are not required to complete the language awareness task, but are encouraged to attend the interview. Confirm your attendance at one of the following interviews by contacting Selina Penjueli on (07) 834 8800 ext. 8276 or by email selina.penjueli@wintec.ac.nz.
