The Electricity Act requires you to be registered as an Electrical Service Technician (EST) with the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) in order to carry out maintenance of electrical appliances. ESTA Registration is for the maintenance of single phase electrical appliances rated up to 230 volts supplied via a flexible cord and plug. Night Class 16 February to 15 June or 21 July to 17 November 2010, 5.30-9.30pm one day per week. Block Class 8 to 18 June 2010 from 8.00am-4.00pm for two weeks. HOW TO ENROL • No formal qualifications are required but you must be competent in English. • To enrol complete an Application to Enrol in Short Course form and include a copy of your Driver’s Licence, Birth Certificate or Passport. EXAMINATION 19 June, 11 September or 20 November 2010 from 9.00-11.00am. Fee $123.00 (includes $60 EWRB exam fee, $25 EWRB practical assessment and $38 admin fee) $68.00 late fee (applications received less than 14 days before examination) You must have completed an ESTA tuition course with an approved training provider before taking the examination. To enrol complete the EWRB entry form available from Wintec and EWRB and pay the examination fee 14 days before the examination date.

ESTB Registration is for the maintenance and replacement of single and three phase electrical appliances and fittings rated up to 460 volts, including disconnection and reconnection to permanent wiring. Night Class 10 August to 23 November 2010, 5.30-9.30pm one day per week. Block Class 22 to 26 November 2010 from 8.00am-5.00pm for one week. HOW TO ENROL You must have completed an ESTA course of tuition prior to this course. • To enrol complete an Application to Enrol in Short Course form and include a copy of your Driver’s Licence, Birth Certificate or Passport plus a copy of your current First Aid Certificate.

WORK EXPERIENCE FOR ESTA AND ESTB In addition to completing the course and passing the examination, you must submit a confirmation of work experience when applying for EST registration. For ESTA this involves work experience of 18 months of prescribed electrical work including 2000 hours (about 12 months) servicing 230 volt plug-in appliances. It is possible, after competing the ESTA course and examination, to continue with ESTB course and examination and complete a total work experience of 18 months or more provided the hours specified above are completed and documented. For ESTB this involves work experience of 18 months of prescribed electrical work including 1000 hours (about 6 months) servicing 230 volt plug-in appliances and 1000 hours (approx 6 months) appliance replacing or servicing of electrical fittings and installations over 230 volts and up to 460 volts rating.
