These regulations should be read in conjunction with the Institute’s Academic Regulations, Clause 2 General Programme Regulations and the relevant NZQA requirements. 1.

Admission and Entry 1.1. Candidates are required to: • • • •

have 48 credits at NCEA Level 2 across four subjects including English, or be employed in a law firm, or have law firm work experience, or have a qualification that indicates a likelihood of success at studying at level 6.

1.2. Candidates with relevant previous business experience may also be considered for entry to this programme. 1.3.

Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test Score (IELTS) of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in the written band. Formal and Informal Transfer of Credit 2.1. Candidates may apply for formal transfer of credit for BSLE001 Introduction to the Legal System if they have successfully completed Introduction to Commercial Law (Level 5). 2.2. Formal transfer of credit is available for this programme. 2.3. Informal transfer of credit is not available for this programme.

Programme Requirements 3.1. Every candidate for the New Zealand Law Society Legal Executive Diploma (Level 6) shall to the satisfaction of the Academic Board follow a programme of study for a period of normally not less than one year. 3.2. Each candidate’s programme of study shall comprise all the modules listed in Section 7 of these regulations, totalling 120 credits.

Completion of the Programme A candidate may take up to six years to complete this programme unless an extension is granted by special permission of the Head of School/Centre Director Assessment Assessment in this programme is achievement based; therefore, aegrotat consideration is available.

Award of the Qualification 6.1. Candidates who successfully complete the requirements in clauses 3.1 and 3.2 will receive the Wintec award of The New Zealand Law Society Legal Executive Diploma (Level 6). 6.2. Candidates who successfully complete the requirements in clauses 3.1 and 3.2 will also be eligible to sit the New Zealand Law Society examinations. Successful completion of these examinations together with three years of practical experience will allow graduates to register with the New Zealand Institute of Legal Executives as a registered Legal Executive. Candidates should be aware that these examinations are at an additional cost.
