These regulations should be read in conjunction with the Institute’s Academic Regulations, clause 2 General Programme Regulations Please note: The Amenity Horticulture endorsement is no longer offered under this programme. Please refer to the National Certificate in Horticulture (Level 4) programme regulations. * The Certificate in Horticulture - Level 4 replaces the Advanced Certificate in Amenity Horticulture and the Advanced Certificate in Arboriculture under the Diploma in Horticulture programme, which are no longer open for new enrolments. Candidates who have previously partially completed one of these qualifications can complete under the existing Diploma in Horticulture programme regulations before the end of 2005. 1.

Admission and Entry 1.1. Candidates are required to have gained: • the National Certificate in Horticulture (Level 2) with specific units in safety and first aid, chainsaw and basic tree felling, groundperson’s duties and introduction to climbing equipment, or • Equivalent qualification, or • Industry experience as approved by the Programme Manager.

Transfer of Credit 2.1 Candidates who have partially completed the Advanced Certificate in Amenity Horticulture or the Advanced Certificate in Arboriculture at Waikato Institute of Technology, and who wish to transfer to the Certificate in Horticulture (Level 4) programme, should consult the programme manager about transfer of credit for individual modules. 2.2 Five specific modules in the stream for the Certificate in Horticulture (Level 4) (Amenity Horticulture) may be cross-credited to the Diploma in Technology (Landscape Design) or Diploma in Technology (Landscape Installation). These modules are marked with an asterisk (*) in the list in section 6 of these regulations.

Programme Requirements 3.1 Every candidate for the Certificate in Horticulture (Level 4) shall to the satisfaction of the Academic Board follow a programme of study for a period of normally not less than two semesters. 3.2 Each candidate’s programme of study shall comprise compulsory and optional modules totalling 120 credits from the schedule of modules in section 6 of these regulations, as follows: 3.2.1 Candidates for the Certificate in Horticulture (Level 4) (Amenity Horticulture) will complete the compulsory modules in group A, and optional modules totalling 30 credits from group B. 3.2.2 Candidates for the Certificate in Horticulture (Level 4) (Arboriculture) will complete the compulsory modules in group C, and optional modules totalling 30 credits from group D.

Completion of the Programme A candidate may take up to five years to complete this programme, unless an extension is granted by special permission of the Head of School or designated equivalent, or authorised nominee.

5.

Incorporated NQF Units towards National Certificates 5.1 Candidates who successfully complete the requirements set out above will have completed NQF credits towards one or more of the six strands of the National Certificate in Horticulture (Arboriculture). Module descriptors set out which NQF units are contained in modules and are available from the school office. 5.2 Candidates who successfully complete the requirements in clauses 3.2.1 and 3.2.2 of these regulations will have completed NQF units towards the National Certificate in Horticulture (Amenity Horticulture) (Level 4).
