If you’re interested in a career in health care but do not have the entry requirements for a degree, then this programme is suitable for you. The Certificate in Health Studies (Level 4) provides an introduction to health studies and the areas of health employment. It will prepare you for a career in health care as well as increase your ability to cope with tertiary study. Programme content You will study: • Communication skills • Study skills • Mathematics • Science • Health studies • Computer skills This programme includes a four week period of working in the community in healthrelated areas, and four weeks preparing and delivering a community health expo.
Candidates with English as a second langauage who are concurrently undertaking a recognised English Language programme at Wintec are required to have obtained an IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent. Candidates with English as a second langauage who are not concurrently undertaking a recognised English Language programme at Wintec are required to have obtained an IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent. Prior to commencing the programme all successful candidates will be required to complete a ‘Consent to Disclosure of Information’ form. Candidates should be aware that some types of criminal conviction may prevent them from accessing clinical placements and completing the programme. Candidates are required to indicate in their application whether they have had a physical or mental health condition.
