These regulations should be read in conjunction with the Institute’s Academic Regulations, clause 2 General Programme Regulations. 1.

Admission and Entry 1.1. Candidates are required to have: 14 credits at NCEA Level 3 in each of three subjects, or 48 credits at NCEA Level 2 across four subjects (preferably including English and/or Mathematics, Practical Art, Technology or Design), or completed University Entrance, or completed Year 12 (Sixth Form) Certificate in at least two subjects (preferably including English and/or Mathematics, Practical Art, Technology or Design) or successfully completed the Certificate in Media Arts (Level 4) programme (formerly known as the Introductory Certificate in Media Arts), or equivalent.

1.2. Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test Score (IELTS) of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in the written band. 1.3. Applicants who do not meet the above entry requirements may nevertheless be considered for provisional entry (if aged under 20) or special admission (if aged 20 or over): consult the General Programme Regulations clauses 2.4.5 and 2.3.8 respectively. In such cases entry will be dependent on whether candidates demonstrate a reasonable likelihood of success in the programme. 1.4. Candidates will also be required to: • •

submit a portfolio of work as specified in the application brochure; and participate in an interview.

2. Formal and Informal Transfer of Credit Formal and informal transfer of credit is available for this programme. Applications for transfer of credit are required to be made to the Team Manager for approval by the relevant committees. 3. Programme Requirements 3.1. Every candidate for the Diploma in Fashion Design and Practice (Level 6) shall to the satisfaction of the Academic Board follow a programme of study for a period of normally not less than two years. 3.2 Each candidate’s programme shall comprise 14 compulsory modules from Group A as listed in section 6. 3.3 Candidates are also required to complete two elective modules from Group B as listed in section 6 or, with the approval of the Head of School/Centre Director candidates may enrol in modules at level 5 or above from the Media Arts, Communication or Business Schools as an alternative to the elective modules in Group B. 3.4 Candidates are required to attend a minimum of 85% of the total teaching hours in each module of the programme. 4.

Completion of the Programme Candidates may take up to five years to complete this programme, unless an extension is granted by special permission of the Head of School/Centre Director.

Award of the Qualification Candidates who successfully complete the requirements in clause 3.2 and 3.3 of these regulations will receive the award of the Diploma in Fashion Design and Practice (Level 6).
