Bachelor of Business Studies Overview 1. There are a variety of ‘majors’ (or ‘endorsements’ - see below). You will need to specify which major you wish to follow when you enrol for modules (papers). However, you will be able to change your major later if you choose to. 2. All majors will be made up of 15-credit modules (courses/papers). 3. It will be possible to finish some majors in the degree in 3 years (with passes in 24 modules, or 360 credits); however, some of the majors will comprise more than 360 credits and therefore take longer to complete. Details of the various majors are as follows: Name of Major

This assumes 2 semesters per calendar year, 4 modules completed per semester. Summer semesters may be offered and modules completed, thereby shortening the calendar years to complete.

Note: The Professional Accounting majors are designed to meet the academic requirements set by the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants for membership of its Chartered Accountants College. See http://www.wintec.ac.nz/business/about/industry.aspx On the pages 4 - 12 you will find the structure of each major.

MODULE LEVELS 500 level modules are normally introductory exposing you to the scope of the topic and its terminology and preparing you to proceed in the subject or in related subject areas. 600 level modules normally develop the theory and methodology of the topic or subject as a framework for later synthesis or evaluation of material. 700 level modules rely less on structured teaching and assessment and require greater student participation. More self-directed learning and a greater degree of intellectual flexibility are expected.

PART-TIME STUDENTS Part-time students have a greater level of flexibility; however, they are recommended to make their selection from the list given above.

ALL STUDENTS All students are recommended to discuss the requirements of their chosen major with the Programme Manager before the end of their first semester, and to discuss their progress with him/her on a regular basis after that.

THE BBS AND THE NZDIPBUS Students will be able to transfer passes in NZDipBus to the BBS. A good academic standard will be expected, and, as a rule, students will receive a 15 credit pass in BBS for each equivalent 20 credit pass in NZDipBus. Students should also be aware that, because of the credit differential, cross-credits from the 15-credit BBS module to a 20-credit NZDipBus module will not be allowed.
