ABOUT ME Hello, I’m Winnie Guan, graduated from San Francisco State University in Visual Communication Design. In terms of design as a career, I hope I can help society and project a positive energy to people through my knowledge. I would like to do informational graphics or other designs for community or social issues. I have a passion in this area because I think that everyone should know about and be concerned about our community and other wide-spread social issues because they are so important to our daily lives and our futures.

EXPERIENCE Park(ing) Day Wheelie DANGEROUS, SFSU 2018

• https://pdgroup4.blogspot.com/2018/09/wheelie-dangerous.html • Wheelie Dangerous 2018 was our PARK(ing) Day event in which we decided to bring awareness to the lack of support from the cityscape which does not provide its people with safety when using more sustainable means of transportation, such as cycling. We used our parking spot as a race track where people would bike past some internationally recognized landmarks of San Francisco. Our race was done on mini bikes to represent the struggle of people who bike in the city with a bit of humor. We wanted people to struggle to cycle through our mini cityscape to create a more realistic feel also by adding obstacles the cyclists would encounter such as cars, trolley, people, narrow lanes and sharp turns.

This researchlooks into the cause of climate change, how climate change affects, and what will be done to expand knowledge and provide additional educational resources to those fighting climate change and all people in the community. The design will serve as a designathon educational those fighting climate change and all people in the community about the fact and prevention of climate change. This project is to raise people’s climate change awareness and provide edcational resources in order to create a comfortable environment for all people in the community.

BOOK DESIGN This book is describe a crazy doctor Frankenstein in the story because the dead body is resurrected in a scientific way. Soon, Frankenstein found this to be a serious mistake, he So, he began to chase this monster, the monster also instinctively fled, and there were many conflicts between the two sides. Letter 1

To Mrs. Saville, England St. Petersburgh, Dec. 11th, 17— You will rejoice to hear that no disaster has accompanied the commencement of an enterprise which you have regarded with such evil forebodings. I arrived here yesterday, and my first task is to assure my dear sister of my welfare and increasing confidence in the success of my undertaking. I am already far north of London, and as I walk in the streets of Petersburgh, I feel a cold northern breeze play upon my cheeks, which braces my nerves and fills me with delight. Do you understand this feeling? This breeze, which has travelled from the regions towards which I am advancing, gives me a foretaste of those icy climes. Inspirited by this wind of promise, my daydreams become more fervent and vivid. I try in vain to be persuaded that the pole is the seat of frost and desolation; it ever presents itself to my imagination as the region of beauty and delight. There, Margaret, the sun is forever visible, its broad disk just skirting the horizon and diffusing a perpetual splendour. There—for with your leave, my sister, I will put some trust in preceding navigators— there snow and frost are banished; and, sailing over a calm sea, we may be wafted to a land surpassing in wonders and in beauty every region hitherto discovered on the habitable globe. Its productions and features may be without example, as the phenomena of the heavenly bodies undoubtedly are in those undiscovered solitudes. What may not be expected in a country of eternal light? I may there discover the wondrous power which attracts the needle and may regulate a thousand celestial observations that require only this voyage to render their seeming eccentricities consistent forever. I shall satiate my ardent curiosity with the sight of a part of the world never before visited, and may tread a land never before imprinted by the foot of man. These are my enticements, and they are sufficient to conquer all fear of danger or death and to induce me to commence this labourious voyage with the joy a child feels when he embarks in a little boat, with his holiday mates, on an expedition of discovery up his native river. But supposing all these conjectures to be false, you cannot contest the inestimable benefit which I shall confer on all mankind, to the last generation, by discovering a passage near the pole to those countries, to reach which at present so many months are requisite; or by ascertaining the secret of the magnet, which, if at all possible, can only be effected by an undertaking such as mine. These reflections have dispelled the agitation with which I began my letter, and I feel my heart glow with an enthusiasm which elevates me to heaven, for nothing contributes so much to tranquillize the mind as a steady purpose—a point on which the soul may fix its intellectual eye. This expedition has been

Chapter 5

It was on a dreary night of November that I beheld the accomplishment of my toils. With an anxiety that almost amounted to agony, I collected the instruments of life around me, that I might infuse a spark of being into the lifeless thing that lay at my feet. It was already one in the morning; the rain pattered dismally against the panes, and my candle was nearly burnt out, when, by the glimmer of the half-extinguished light, I saw the dull yellow eye of the creature open; it breathed hard, and a convulsive motion agitated its limbs. How can I describe my emotions at this catastrophe, or how delineate the wretch whom with such infinite pains and care I had endeavoured to form? His limbs were in proportion, and I had selected his features as beautiful. Beautiful! Great God! His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath; his hair was of a lustrous black, and flowing; his teeth of a pearly whiteness; but these luxuriances only formed a more horrid contrast with his watery eyes, that seemed almost of the same colour as the dun-white sockets in which they were set, his shrivelled complexion and straight black lips. The different accidents of life are not so changeable as the feelings of human nature. I had worked hard for nearly two years, for the sole purpose of infusing life into an inanimate body. For this I had deprived myself of rest and health. I had desired it with an ardour that far exceeded moderation; but now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart. Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created, I rushed out of the room and continued a long time traversing my bedchamber, unable to compose my mind to sleep. At length lassitude succeeded to the tumult I had before endured, and I threw myself on the bed in my clothes, endeavouring to seek a few moments of forgetfulness. But it was in vain; I slept, indeed, but I was disturbed by the wildest dreams. I thought I saw Elizabeth, in the bloom of health, walking in the streets of Ingolstadt. Delighted and surprised, I embraced her, but as I imprinted the first kiss on her lips, they became livid with the hue of death; her features appeared to change, and I thought that I held the corpse of my dead mother in my arms; a shroud enveloped her form, and I saw the grave-worms crawling in the folds of the flannel. I started from my sleep with horror; a cold dew covered my orehead, my teeth chattered, and every limb became convulsed; when, by the dim and yellow light of the moon,

FINAL COMPOSITION

25

For the final outcome is to connect all the round shape letters “grace” and line shape letters “ful”. Using overlapping effect for the letter “ugly” to represent the meaning of the word.

26

27

PACKAGING This project is about typography on 3D object (packaging design). This project requires problem solving, from initial visual research and idea sketches through refinements and the final presentation of project. It reinforces the use of typographic design vocabulary, and it also develops fields such as hierarchy, spacial composition and micro-typography. This is a non-branding re-design. Types (letter forms) are not only graphic design elements, in terms of shapes and forms. Used together they also build complex verbal communication and information system.

28

29

OBSERVATIONS

The objective of this project is to pick up a drink-can above, analyse it’s information content and re-interprate it first into a black and white typo-graphical solution within a given volume. Integration of a given text within the given shape, organisation of text in 3-dimentions. The visual impact of visual transition of elements must be carefully considered in conjunction with the relationship between 2D and 3D forms. Positive and negative spaces, global and micro-typography are key factors of the success of this project.

Think about how you will want to structure the text according its meaning. It can be choose to emphasize paragraphs, sentences, words. Observe actives and passive surfaces.
