Black & White photos in social or contemporary issues

你還愛香港嗎? Shall we love Hong Kong or not? Due to the freedom of speech, people can have the human right to comment and express their views on different issues. Within these few years, people use different ways including organizing the march, presenting the petition etc to express views on social issues. On 1st Jan 2014, different social issues and attitudes towards the issues can be seen again during the New Year’s Day march in Central. It is good to see that people express their opinions in harmony. Thousands of marchers set off from Victoria Park to press for “genuine” universal suffrage in

the 2017 chief executive election. The marchers express their opinion through the action, banners and slogans. The series of photography are expressed in documentary and portrait categories. Both supporters and opposition faction yearned for showing their views on that day. It is a memorable time to capture their faces and actions. Marchers were united to express their plaints firmly. Most marchers focus on the chief executive election issues to fight for voting right. On the other hand, when we just focus on the social plaints, more importantly is to consider on this phenomenon in Hong Kong nowadays. When more and more opposition factions arise, is it a good phenomenon to Hong Kong Government? Is it a good phenomenon to the next generation in Hong Kong? I think it is not only for us to pay attention to the issues, both

marchers and government also need to reflect on this trend and counterforce. As a Hong Kong resident, what should we do to protect our Hong Kong environment and develop a positive political environment? With the New Year comes, it is time for us to reflect on the behaviors and actions we have done. Freedom of speech indeed is a positive political right and human right for residents to express opinions. With the concern of Hong Kong government and president, we should also reflect on how to use it more effectively in order to develop a lovely and harmonious Hong Kong.

Thematic printed photograph Conceptual Photograph – The locks with different meanings Locks involve different meanings in different places and time. In daily, a lock is a piece of simple device actually. People use the locks to fasten a door while it is released by keys, keycard or fingerprint for security. Therefore, it is common for locks to appear on the door. However, it becomes a memorable issue and interesting scene when they appear on the Great Wall. As a Chinese, it is proud to stand on this historical architecture Great Wall. Its stories started from the Warring States Period.

With the past of different Dynasty, it also becomes a powerful witness on different stories from the past to the future. The image is shown in the conceptual category to show the historical value found on the Great Wall. On the view of a Chinese, the focus is not only the mystery of the construction of the wall, but also the considerable part of Chinese culture. The Great Wall was used to protect the country in the past. Now, it preserves different unique stories. In the past, the most well-known legend is about the collapse of a section of the Wall caused by Meng Jiangnu, who cried bitterly over the death of her husband after he died while building the Wall. Nowadays, more meaningful stories start on the Wall and become another

historical event in the future. It is a valuable scene when modern story happens on this historical architecture. Nowadays, a new story goes that if people writes or carve their names on a padlock, locks it onto the bridge and throws the key away, their love will endure for all eternity or hope will come true. Although it is just a belief when you do so, the locks indeed involve different single story and hope. Similarity, many stories and hopes were emerge on this identification of Chinese- The Great Wall.
