Sent into Salford as Sons

By Russ Bennett

Last Sunday, Joanne Hardwidge discussed the topic of maturity for the whole church. She recalled what Dave Emmett said about how we have received the Spirit of adoption Who causes us to grow up into Christ. The Holy Spirit is causing us to become mature sons so we can access our full inheritance. Joanne said that in Roman times (the context of Paul’s letters), a male child didn’t automatically become an heir; he had to prove his maturity to be able to represent his father in every way. Jesus sends us into Salford as He was sent by the Father; sent in full assurance of His love and power (John 20:10). Being mature means you not only take ownership of your own walk with God in obedience, but you “We are reminded of have a passionate desire for the Church to be all our commission to she is intended to be. We should all have the same heart as Paul, whose life work as an apostle was to ‘Make Jesus Famous’; see everyone presented mature in Christ to be those who make (Colossians 1:28). As children grow up they bedisciples of Christ in come more aware of the needs and feelings of every sphere of life.” others. Our responsibility shows our son-ship. We are reminded of our commission to ‘Make Jesus Famous’; to be those who make disciples of Christ in every sphere of life. As each person in the church knows they are sent by the Father into their own spheres of influence (work, school, home etc), we also join together as the church in evangelistic events.

Here are just two of the ways we are Making Jesus Famous: Treasure Hunt: Once a month we go out as a church to the streets, shopping malls, homes (or anywhere else) as we are led by clues (words of knowledge) on our ‘Treasure Maps’, leading us to specific people to whom God wants to show His love and goodness, through the power of the Holy Spirit. Our next Treasure Hunt is Saturday 11th December, starting out in Ordsall.

V.I.P: We have a great opportunity to show Christ’s compassion and restoring love to vulnerable and marginalised people in our city through the V.I.P. event on Friday 11th February 2011 at Buile Hill Hall in Salford. As a church we have put on three V.I.P events previously and we have seen people loved, healed and saved. This is a whole church event, and we need YOU to help! (To find out more about how to get involved in these events please ask at the Welcome Desk.)
