About the Foundation

DEDICATED TO HELPING LOW-INCOME AND HOMELESS FAMILIES SINCE 1989

At Windermere, we understand the importance of family and giving back to the communities in which we live and serve. That’s why we created the Windermere Foundation, a 501(C) (3) non-profit organization that has supported low-income and homeless families throughout the Western U.S. for over three decades. The generous donations of Windermere associates and public supporters have allowed us to provide more than $50 million to hundreds of organizations that support those who need our help most.

Non-profit agencies receiving Windermere Foundation dollars have furnished emergency and transitional housing, as well as subsidized costs for services, such as employment-related counseling, placement, and training. A significant portion of Windermere Foundation dollars also go towards funding programs that help children, including daycare services, literacy programs, summer camps, and providing basic necessities, such as like school supplies and backpacks.

In honor of Windermere’s 50TH ANNIVERSARY, the company announced in EARLY 2022 that it would strive to reach $50 MILLION in total donations to the Windermere Foundation by year’s end. To help reach this goal, Windermere launched its “50 IN 50” CAMPAIGN. At the start of 2022, Windermere had raised a total of $46 million, LEAVING $4 MILLION for the company to raise in order to REACH THE $50 MILLION GOAL—nearly double what is raised for the Windermere Foundation in a typical year.

LOCAL FUNDRAISING + EVENTS

In 2022, Windermere offices throughout the Western U.S. stepped up for their neighbors in need by raising money for the Windermere Foundation, which was then donated to organizations that support low-income and homeless families. Here are a handful of examples of how our offices gave back to their communities last year.

Walla Walla, Washington

The Windermere Walla Walla office puts their creativity on full display each year with a themed bowling night. This year the cartoon-themed fundraiser helped provide resources to women and children in need at the local YWCA, the Christian Aid Society, and Children’s Home Society. Agents, staff, and community members arrived in their best cartoon garb, bowling the night away to the tune of $10,000 in total donations.

Bozeman, Montana

In April of 2022, the Windermere office in downtown Bozeman hosted a “Windermere Week of Giving” for five local organizations, resulting in $1,000 donations to each. Thrive, Eagle Mount, Family Promise, Human Resource Development Council, and HAVEN deliver a variety of services to families in need in the local community, ranging from resources for victims of sexual abuse to support for families experiencing homelessness.

Salt Lake City, Utah

Windermere Utah has kept the Make-A-Wish Foundation close to their hearts for years, repeatedly directing their fundraising efforts toward this special organization with the goal of making a difference for children in need throughout Utah. So, when it came to making their first impactful donation of 2022, they looked no further than Make-A-Wish. Windermere Utah donated $5,000 to the organization to support children in need in their community.

Portland, Oregon

The Portland-area offices that make up Windermere Realty Trust held their 12th annual Windermere Foundation Golf Tournament at the Columbia Edgewater Country Club. Nearly 100 participants from the Windermere network and local community came together for a day of golf and giving, making this one of the most successful tournaments to date. The event raised over $36,000 for organizations supported by the Windermere Foundation, including New Avenues for Youth and Bridge Meadows.

Fort Collins, Colorado

The Windermere offices in Northern Colorado raised money for several organizations in 2022, including a $10,000 donation to ChildSafe, a non-profit organization that provides children with responsive treatment and recovery from child abuse. They also donated $5,000 to the Weld County School District which was used to purchase grocery gift cards for low-income and homeless families.

Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

Windermere Coeur d’Alene Realty’s boots and socks program is a local tradition. They distribute between 400 and 600 pairs of boots and socks each year, which has added up to over 14,000 pairs donated since the program began in 1996. The boots and socks go to local schools and non-profit organizations supporting families in need to ensure kids will stay warm throughout the winter. The program is funded through agent donations, fundraisers, and individual donations from clients and community members.

Riverside, California

The Windermere Tower Properties office has a longstanding relationship with the Riverside Arts Academy that dates back to 2013, when they helped save the organization from ending their arts education programming due to a lack of funding. In 2022, they continued their support by donating $10,000 to the non-profit organization, which provides musical education and instruments to hundreds of children from low-income families in the Riverside community.

Seattle, Washington

In October, the Windermere Ballard office in Seattle hosted their beloved Bingo Boogie Night at the local Elks Lodge. With the crowd donning their best disco costumes, they competed for prizes and silent auction items donated by sponsors. Once the winning bids were all tallied up, this night raised over $25,000, which was dispersed to a number of organizations including the Ballard Food Bank, Boys & Girls Club of Ballard, and the Ballard Northwest Senior Center.

To help reach our $50 million goal, the Windermere Foundation hosted the inaugural Windermere Foundation Gala.

More than 600 guests from throughout the Windermere network joined together on September 30, 2022, at the Seattle Sheraton Grand Hotel for a night of live entertainment and fundraising. The evening consisted of silent and live auctions and raise the paddle, which combined raised $1.6 million for the Windermere Foundation.

“Hi Neighbor”

Community Service Day

Every year, Windermere agents and staff from our 300+ offices dedicate a day of work to those in need. From homeless shelters to playgrounds, food banks, and more, we join together to support a wide variety of community-based organizations through hands-on improvement projects. With more than two million hours of community service logged to date, we’re proud to continue this tradition of giving back to the communities where our Windermere teams live and work.

Sam Smith Homeownership Fund

Launched in early 2022 through our partnership with non-profit lender HomeSight, the Sam Smith Homeownership Fund is designed to help low-to-moderate-income Black/African American first-time home buyers who have been historically underserved by traditional lenders. In 2022, Windermere raised over $153,181 for the Sam Smith fund, which helped several Black/African American families in Washington State enter into homeownership for the first time. The average loan was $12,000 and the total value of real estate purchased was $3,629,500 – a legacy of wealth that has been created for families that will last generations.

Aspire Internship

Formed in partnership with the University of Washington College of Built Environments, Windermere’s Aspire internship program launched in July 2021. The internship offers financial support, mentoring, and skill-building to students through academic and professional office settings, with a focus on those from historically underrepresented or marginalized groups. In 2022, eighteen University of Washington students participated in the program, more than doubling the number from the year before. The interns were hosted by eight Windermere offices and three ancillary partners over an eight-week period in which they learned about different aspects of the real estate profession. This culminated in the students creating five unique presentations that illustrated their ideas for improved housing solutions.

WIN Scholarship Program

Windermere created the WIN Scholarship program in 2022 after recognizing the need to build a more diverse company that better reflects the communities we serve. Funded in part by the Windermere Foundation, the goal of this program is to increase support for new BIPOC real estate agents by aiding in the costs related to building a successful real estate career. In 2022, there were seven recipients of the WIN Scholarship.
