(Please note that there is no Monday Evening Service tomorrow Sept. 2nd due to Labor Day). LOVE SPEAKS: People sacrifice many things to speak of Christ’s love to our world. Sometimes this means sacrificing the pleasures and luxuries of this world. Sometimes this means sacrificing friendships and acquaintances with people who don’t want to be subject to anyone but themselves. For those who give themselves full-time to the work of sharing Christ’s love, this might mean sacrificing lucrative jobs and careers. So why are we willing to sacrifice all of this to speak of Christ’s love? Compared to the riches of Christ these are all rubbish! Christ’s love is so precious that we joyfully hold tight to it and share it with others. This will be the focus of our time together next weekend: Love Speaks Sacrificially.
BIBLE CLASSES TO BEGIN: Pastor Wilsmann’s 6:30 Wednesday morning Bible class and 7:00 Thursday evening Bible class have begun. The Wed. morning Bible class will not last more than an hour. You are free to leave for work whenever you need to. These two bible classes are identical so you only need to come to one. Everyone is invited to attend. We will be using the same format we used at the end of last year. That is, we will expand on last Sunday’s sermon with very little lecture and a lot of class discussion. Our theme is on the Love Speaks series. There will be a joint social event in October after the series is completed. ONLINE BIBLE CLASS: Our synod's Adult Discipleship has recently been offering group Bible studies online for use by congregation Bible study classes and groups to serve as a mid-week Bible study at church. (Our congregation has participated in a couple of these in the past.) The classes can also be used by small groups. So, gather at our school's computer room on Wed., September 4, 2013 at 8:30 p.m., or around your personal computer to join in fellowship and learn about the Bible with brothers and sisters in faith from around the country. The next Bible study is on "The Ministry of Elijah". Marvel with us at the grace of God...even in times of rampant apostasy. Prof. Keith Wessel of Martin Luther College will lead this six week study. SEPTEMBER MONTHLY NEWSLETTER: The Sept. monthly newsletter is available on the table located in the narthex.
TLC YOUTH OUTING: All students in grades 8-12 and their parents are invited and encouraged to attend our TLC Youth Bonfire on Sunday, September 22nd, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Jaeger Farm. Supper and S’mores will be provided. Bring a chair to sit around the bonfire. If you have any questions or would like additional information, please call or text Mrs. Pufahl at 920-960-0304. Directions to the Jaeger Farm: 356 Clarkson Road, Waterloo. Take Monroe St./ Hwy 89 north past the high school. Turn left on Clarkson Road. Go about 2 miles and the farm will be on the right. If you get to Hwy 73, you have gone too far.
NEW WEBSITE: Pastor Wilsmann has a new website. You can find the link to this site on our church webpage in the same place you could access his old site (at the bottom of the light blue middle section of the front page). Among the improvements to this new site is that you no longer need a Google Account to access it. It will be accessible to everyone who clicks on it. Another improvement to this site is that by clicking on the "V" for Vimeo you will have access to all of our sermons since last summer. The most recent sermon will appear at the top of the list. Starting this Sunday you can also access a study edition of each sermon. You might find these study editions with questions in the body of the sermon a help for the Bible Classes which will discuss each Sunday's sermon and for the "Sermon Blog" where you can participate in the discussion of our sermons with his confirmation classes. Please check it out!
WIENER & KRAUT DAY: Wiener & Kraut Day is Saturday, Sept. 14th, at Firemen’s Park. As we have in the past, our congregation will show our hospitality to the community by opening up our restrooms and parking lot to the public. Since the celebration is being held down at the Park, we will only be serving light refreshments at church. If you are able to help serve on that day, please contact the office at 478-2707 ASAP. There is also a sign up sheet on the information table in the church narthex.
JESUS CARES: Jesus Cares of Watertown will begin its new year on Sat., September 14th. The starting time will be at 10:00 AM (Please note the new time!) and the session will run until 11:30 AM. Our opening will now be “Worship at the Cross” a service designed by Jesus Cares Ministries and presented on PowerPoint. “Turn all your worries over to him. He (Jesus) cares about you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
SPECIAL GIFTS AND MEMORIALS: Additional memorials were received this week in memory of Bob Duckert and were specified for the Operating Debt Retirement Fund. Thanks for these gifts.
