Ontario’s Oldest Road is on the Apple Route Driving south of Trenton you are following the route of generations of Native explorers, settlers and soldiers. Here you will find an ancient portage route between Lake Ontario and the Bay of Quinte. This was the shortest path between the two bodies of water and it was called “The Carrying Place” by early settlers. Along this small part of Country Road 64, Old Portage Road has been given the distinction of being the Oldest Road in Ontario.
