Examinations It has come to my notice that several students are taking examinations at centres other than Langley School. Whilst this is neither frowned upon nor condoned, it can cause administrative problems, particularly when applying to Further Education colleges and Higher Education. In order to be entered for any examination at any centre in the UK students need to have the following: ULN: Unique Learner Number – this tracks a person’s progress through education UCI: Unique Candidate Identifier – this identifies which exams a candidate takes and when As the name suggests, each student should only have one of each of these. These will usually be issued by the school that you attend at the start of Year 10. If you enter any exams at another centre, you should supply them with both your ULN and UCI, in order that all your results are reported to the school you attend and are kept together. This is important because Langley School will provide colleges with records of the results or forecast results for your application. If you have obtained a higher result at another centre, Langley School will not necessarily know about it and you may not be offered a place at the college of your choice. If your child has taken any examinations at other centres and have not informed the school, please can you bring in any certificates [not photocopies] to the examinations office, so that our records can be updated. Mr G Crooks, Examinations Manager Book of the Week The Book of the Week for the week beginning Monday 31 March 2014 is: “World of Norm may be contagious” Jonathon Meres Following on from his first four massively unfair adventures, Norm is back! And he knows that it's just going to be one of those days...Before long a dogrelated injury prevents him from biking, and an old "friend" threatens the one thing even more important to Norm than his bike. And we're not talking pizza! Upset plans and upset stomachs...Norm's out of luck. And it may be contagious! This is an award-winning, laugh-out-loud series for fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid and David Walliams. Medical / First Aid update Last HPV Injection: Just a reminder that the last HPV vaccination will be taking place for Year 8 girls on Wednesday 9 April 2014. Please ensure girls have breakfast and if possible wear a short sleeved blouse or a t-shirt under their blouse. Water: As the weather warms up please ensure your child has a water bottle with them; they are able to re-fill these during break times. Asthma Inhalers: If you wish your child to have a spare inhaler in school please send one in, named and with their form group on, with a note giving permission for this to be given to your child. Hay fever: Please ensure your child has had their medication before school. Please contact Mrs Kehoe if you wish to discuss leaving some spare medicine in school. Any queries regarding any of the above please contact Mrs Kehoe, 0121-706 9771.
