‘Countdown to Christmas’ Concert – Wednesday 27 November 7pm The Music Department invites parents, family and friends to join us for our annual concert on Wednesday 27 November. There will be a variety of music performed by students from Years 7-11 all entwined with a Christmas theme and everybody is welcome! Tickets, priced at £4 each, are available from Mrs Mitchell in the Box Office, which is open at break-time and lunch-time for students or online via Parentpay. Tickets usually sell very quickly! Academic Mentoring/ Review Mornings At Langley we run a successful programme of 1:1 academic mentoring. Each year group is invited to a 1:1 meeting with a staff mentor to focus on the student’s academic concerns or issues - thanks to the support of other students and parents. The Review Morning for Year 10 students will take place as follows: •

Year 10 students will be given an allotted time to meet their mentors between 8.40 - 9.25am on Tuesday 10 December 2013.

All other year groups, ie Years 7, 8, 9 and 11 will register with form tutors at 9.30am on Tuesday 10 December 2013. Thank you in anticipation!

Uniform Reminder With the onset of the colder weather, please ensure that all children have a warm, waterproof coat to wear at break-time and lunch-time because, whenever possible, students will be outside for some fresh air and/or exercise each day. Your child’s coat should be of a dark colour, not leather, PVC, denim or fur, with an absence of logos. Please note that ‘hoodies’ are not appropriate and if worn, will be confiscated and returned at the end of the day. Thank you. Please ensure that children with asthma keep an inhaler with them. Spare inhalers may be held in school. If you have any concerns, please see your GP or ring Mrs Kehoe on 0121-706 9771, extension 217. In addition, School Nurses are available to offer support and advice in relation to your child’s health and well-being, along with the routine surveillance offered as set out in the Healthy Child Programme (DOH 2009). Urgent Request for Year 7 Parental E-mails We still do not have a current e-mail for many of our Year 7 parents. If you have an e-mail address, please inform the School Office so we can update our data and endeavour to improve the speed and cost of our communication. We have recently sent out Data Collection forms via your child for you to amend and return. If you wish to add or change your e-mail address it can be done through this form. Although the exhibition is aimed at engineering professionals and graduates, students with a genuine interest may find it useful to obtain information about progression into the industry for further information please look at the following website: Book of the Week The Book of the Week for the week beginning Monday 25th November is: “Ratburger” by David Walliams This is the fifth, screamingly funny novel from David Walliams, number one bestseller and fastest growing children's author in the country.
