Kids School Holidays Activities

We’ve had some great activities for kids happening in the Easter and July school holidays with the highlight being the return of the BABBA Kids Show. 250 kids and parents were Dancing Queens & Kings at the Club and there were smiles everywhere as we reminisced the best of the ABBA tunes from the 80’s. We also screened the award winning documentary film ‘I Am Eleven’ by Melbourne film-maker, Genevieve Bailey to a room full of kids and parents with Q & A with Genevieve after the movie. See inside for more.

“The kids movie day at the Yarraville Club was fantastic! Our two kids had a great time, with the clown & the face painting both highlights.

Community CORNER

We’ve forged some great new community initiatives over the last few months, paving the way for great partnerships and opportunities which stand to benefit many sectors of our community. We’ve recently started working with Annecto, ‘the people’. Annecto look after some of the disadvantaged and elderly in the Yarraville area and we look forward to welcoming some of their clients to the Club for Morning Melodies and also for the odd game of snooker.

Sponsorships. The Yarraville Club is pleased to continue a strong association with both the Yarraville Seddon Eagles as well as the WRFL as major sponsors. We also sponsor their regular events such as the Yarraville Seddon Eagles Ladies Day with Yarraville Laughs and Yarraville Live comedy shows and membership offers as prizes. If you’re part of a community group in the west and would like to chat about how we can support your group, be sure to call Violet Browne on 9916 4857 or 0412 705 700. We’re also proud to be a Platinum sponsor of the Footscray Hockey Club and we look forward to welcoming their members to the Club. Boasting a 500 strong membership, the Hockey Club is the 2nd largest in Victoria and sports 18 junior teams, 9 men’s, 9 women’s and 6 veterans teams including one ladies team. Established in 1934, they have seen 79 years of rich history in the area. The Club has forged some other great new community initiatives over the last few months, paving the way for great partnerships and opportunities which stand to benefit many sectors of our community. Some of the other organisations the Club has assisted include the Women’s Circus, Yarraville West Primary School and Merriwa Kindergarten and we’ve recently started working with Annecto. Annecto look after some of the disadvantaged and elderly in the Yarraville area and we look forward to welcoming some of their clients to the Club for Morning Melodies and for the odd game of snooker.

Australian Open Billiards Championships In June, the Yarraville club hosted the Australian National and Open Billiards championships. Both events were very successful with a strong field in the National championship and the largest ever field in the Open championship (including 10 international players). Mathew Bolton, from WA, proved too good winning both events (his 11th National Championship). In the Open Championship final he defeated Sourav Kothari (India) and in the National Championship final he defeated Michael Pearson (NSW). In his acceptance speeches, Matthew made special mention of the excellent playing conditions provided by the Yarraville Club. Matthew narrowly missed setting a new Australian Championship record break, making a break of 693 during the round robin. The record break, 702 by Bob Marshall, was set in 1953! Perhaps next year we’ll see that record broken.

I Am Eleven The Club was proud to host the screening of the award-winning documentary film “I Am Eleven” to a room full of kids and parents. Relaxing in our comfy bean bags, quite a few kids took the opportunity to participate in the Q & A after the movie and ask questions of the Melbourne film-maker, Genevieve Bailey.

Yarraville Club and pekish have combined to offer $500 worth of prizes to be won every Friday for our raffle. Don’t forget our Wednesday Meat Raffle each week with $400 worth of meat tray to be won.

The film documents the thoughts, feelings and beliefs of kids from 16 countries around the world with differing cultural and religious beliefs, starting from when they were 11 and progressing into their teens. What came out was that we’re all the same wherever we are and pretty much care about the same things, with family being the most important! We all agreed, the universal message that, with a little love, good food and shared joy, it doesn’t take much to forge strong bonds and create happy, healthy children.

Gala Night 27th July

Thanks Genevieve and Henrik for an enlightening afternoon and well done on a fabulous film. Check out the I am eleven facebook page.

Raffles commence 5pm – 7.30pm in the Foyer. Tickets are $5.00 to enter.

So, make sure you join us next holidays and check our website for ‘what’s on’. Cost is $10 including lunch. Some of the comments were: “What a fun day out. If you would like to showcase your business or be a guest speaker at one of the morning sessions, please contact Violet on 0412 705 700. Otherwise, just come along and join us for an informal coffee and chat about YOUR business or business idea. There’s no charge and morning tea is compliments of the Yarraville Club. Check the website for future dates and speakers at yarravilleclub. com.au or go to our Facebook page for regular updates. “Just a note to say how much I enjoyed the Showcase evening. It was fantastic idea which culminated in an equally fantastic evening. Being given the chance to ‘Show off’ our business’s to like minded people and be able to learn from one another is very important. Food was delicious and the service outstanding. Thank you again” Mia Locksley, Meander Melbourne Tours.

Michael will be supporting Ciaran and Fenella in maintaining the excellent level of service in the restaurant and functions area. Troy Doron has also joined as Head Chef pekish @ Yarraville. Troy’s fabulous organisational and culinary skills have already surpassed our expectations and we hope you can join us in making them both welcome. Watch the daily specials board closely for Troy’s subtle changes, and stay tuned for a new look menu in August 2013. Christmas in July has been a huge success with great group functions and catch ups enjoying traditional Christmas feasts with trimmings and special Santa appearances. Add it to your social calendar for next year – a great reason for a celebration with delicious food. Excellent value at pekish with Members calendar vouchers… Lots of people took advantage of our 20% off your total bill for lunch and dinner valid 7 days offer. Be sure to use your August voucher - 2 for 1 lunch valid Monday to Thursday, and the FREE bottle of house wine voucher. Check out your members calendar and book now (leave a message if restaurant is unattended and we’ll get right back to you).

Pekish forthcoming dates to consider: Sunday September 1st is Fathers Day - don’t leave it too late to book with your family for lunch or dinner with plenty pekish Dads favourites on the specials board. Saturday 28th September is Grand Final Day – keep the house clean and grab friends to watch the Grand Final at the Club with a FREE Gourmet BBQ, and room for the kids to play (book early to secure your bistro table). Tuesday 5th November – the cosiest place to watch the Melbourne Cup run, with another free gourmet BBQ for members. We extend our thanks to Yarraville Club Members for their continued support of Pekish @ Yarraville. Some of you may have experienced delays in securing tables on our busier sittings, and we encourage restaurant bookings to avoid disappointment on 9689 6033 or via www.yarravilleclub.com.au Pint sized pekish patrons. Out of genuine concern to the well being of your little ones, we would like to request all parents dining at pekish to please ask children to refrain from excessive noise or speed in the restaurant. We love that we can accommodate families and delight in offering the playground, but we must also respect the feedback from our members who have expressed concerns over potential accidents caused by children running or having bare feet in the restaurant.
