February 22, 2010 Posted by Airlive in Home / SOHO. Tags: 3G, Green, GreenWave, High Power, Home, Routers, Wireless add a comment I am back. For those who are unaware, it is the period of Chinese New Year here in Taiwan and we were having a nice little week long vacation. During the holidays, I traveled to the countryside and visited a friend’s who own a farm. This is also the perfect opportunity for me to test out the power of AirLive latest creation – the Air3G. Now for those who are following my last blog entry, I did mention that one of the main feature of Air3G is it 1 Watt high power radio. But for most of us who live in the city, we can’t really appreciate the full power of 1 Watt due to the limited space we are living in (unless you are living in Buckingham Palace). While out at the countryside, I have the first hand opportunity to witness just how far AirLive Air3G can transmit. First we hook up the Air3G to the ADSL line and place the Air3G close to an open window. Next I took my MacBook and travel to the farthest end of the farm, which in my estimation is about 800 meter away from Air3G. The next thing to do, obviously is to try and connect my MacBook to Air3G and amazingly, I can still managed to achieve about 70% signal strength. I am pretty sure that I can still get a signal at 1 kilometer, but unfortunately I ran out of space to test that. This may not sound very interesting but think of what it can do if you are sharing your Internet Connection with your neighbors or to use it in a hotspot environment. But wouldn’t it be troublesome if every time you change your SSID password and you will need to inform everyone whom you are sharing with? This is even more unimaginable if you are using it as a hotspot device. That will bring us to Air3G next feature – Hotspot Authentication. Air3G is by no means a full-fledged hotspot device but it does allow you to create a

It’s Finally here… AirLive Multi-Functional 3G router (Part 1) February 8, 2010 Posted by Airlive in Home / SOHO. Tags: 3G, High Power, Home, Routers, Wireless add a comment “To go with 3G or not to go with 3G”, that is the questions I had been asked a lot lately by friends, customers and just about everyone I know. Many of them are thinking of switching to 3G Internet services at their home. Well, we will need to realize that 3G Internet is no longer use only on the road. Using 3G Internet at home has its advantages. Firstly, 3G connections are improving, bringing them close to the performance of some ADSL services. Secondly, you do not need to place your router close to the ADSL (or cable) socket – you can place it anywhere that will provide the best coverage. When you are out, simply bring along your 3G modem and you can carry your Internet with you. You do not need 2 subscriptions. And for those areas with unstable ADSL connections, 3G acts as a perfect back up to your Internet connection. The downside to a 3G connection is that you only get 1 SIM card (and a modem), thus you are not able to share your connection. Which is why AirLive Air3G is such a highly anticipated product. Not only does it allow you to share your 3G with Single Stream 802.11n coverage, it is also a high power router and a hotspot authentication device. Basically you get 3 devices for the price of a normal router. This week, we will take a look at one of the function – 3G/WAN backup. As mentioned, 3G Internet is a perfect backup to your ADSL (or cable) connection. Admittedly, most 3G routers allow you to choose WAN or 3G services but most of the routers currently in the market require you to do the switch manually. AirLive Air3G smart backup system (well, I did wrote about smarter strategies, read it here) lets you do that without the need of your http://airlive.wordpress.com/

strategies, read it here) lets you do that without the need of your interventions. For a start, you can set your primary (or preferred) connection to be either WAN (ADSL or cable) or 3G connection. When your primary connection is down, Air3G will automatically switch to your secondary connection. But wait, that is not all. Now, the smart thing to do when implementing a backup connection is not to go on an “Unlimited plan”. You only want to pay for what you used. You want to use as little of your secondary connection as possible and switch back to your primary connection when the service resume. Unfortunately, as far as I know, all the 3G routers currently in the market require you to do the switching manually. AirLive Air3G is the first 3G router in the market that provides automatic connection recovery. Air3G will automatically switch back to your primary connection when the service is resumed and all these processes are done in the background without you even notice it.

Next issue we will look at the other 2 important aspects of AirLive Air3G – 1 watt high power router and hotspot authentication mode. Author: William Ko Email: marketing@airlive.com

Smarter Strategies for the New Year

February 1, 2010

Posted by Airlive in Technology. Tags: 3G, AirMax5, Catalog, Green, GreenWave, Marketing, Wireless 1 comment so far In case you’ve been living under a rock, the technology news of the week is Apple’s announcement of iPad, which was touted as a smart tablet. SMART – that is our blog topic for the week. At the start of the year, we were thinking, what is our vision for 2010? How can we improve customer overall satisfactions? The answer?

Smarter Strategies for the New Era. After a couple of years of recession, many countries are starting to undergo economic recovery, but the effect of the recession is there for us to see. Companies will change their way to do business. No more wasteful spending, every dollars must bring in the maximum return on investment (ROI).

So how will AirLive ensure our customer will continue to have the cutting edge when marketing our products? First stop, smarter products. We had been talking about going green lately but having a green product is more then having new chipsets that consume less power. The firmware must be intelligent enough to know when to increase the power when in demand or using the least energy when the machine is in idle mode. And our Polling function for our outdoor Access Points have built-in intelligent that will automatically determine the distance of the clients for maximum transmission efficiency. And should one of the machine failed, Lock-to-AP will automatically search for the next available machine, thus maintaining a smooth connection. And what about our latest 3G routers with WAN failed-over? Sure, most 3G routers is able switch to WAN when the 3G connection fails (or vice-versa) but AirLive 3G router will know the connection recover and switch to your preferred connection the instant they become available. Now that is a smart router. While many companies emphasis on smarter products, we at AirLive like to think differently. Not only do we have smarter products, we only provide smarter marketing services so that our customer can promote AirLive product at greater efficiency. For a start, we decided to tear up our product catalog (not literally, of course). Rather than having all the products in one big catalog, we split them up into 4 different product lines.

You and your customers can now focus on the product lines that they are really interested in. And in order for AirLive customers to have instance access to our catalog at any time, they are now available as an interactive online version. Click here to view the Home/SOHO Online Product Catalog Click here to view the Enterprise Online Product Catalog Click here to view the WISP Online Product Catalog Click here to view the Surveillance Online Product Catalog Well, we have more new products and services coming your way. A little sneak preview for our loyal readers – very soon, instead of you having you visiting us at our trade show, we will be bringing the trade show to you right in the comfort of your home. What does Mac and AirLive have in common? January 25, 2010 Posted by Airlive in Technology. Tags: AirMax5, Firmware Upgrade, Wireless add a comment I was installing Windows 7 on my Mac (via bootcamp) when a question pop into my mind. What is a computer without its operating system (OS)? As we all know, a computer without its OS is completely unusable. And when you installed different OS on machines with the same specifications, why are we experience difference in performance. Mac computers are said to be running faster and easier to use than Windows-based computers even when running on a slower CPU – why is this so? The key lies in the operating systems. The OS is the brain of the machine. When the OS is well written or developed with unique features that none other OS have, your machine thinks better, runs faster and performs smoother. So what has this got to do with AirLive and our technology? When in come to wireless networking devices for professional usage, the firmware plays a critical role, just like the OS to a computer. Only with a well-developed firmware, will you get better signal coverage, longer distance connectivity and obtain maximum throughput. Without a good firmware, very often, your devices are only running at 50% efficiency – at most. Many will think that AirLive is a manufacturer for high quality networking hardware. Well, there is a slight misconception here. We not only made high quality hardware but we are also dedicated to develop our own firmware. There are many companies out there who claimed to develop their own firmware, but in actual fact most are using some generic firmware and customizing them to add a bit more functionality. These usually result in poor performance and instability. By developing our firmware from ground up, we are able to ensure a smooth integration between processes, between the hardware and the software and between performance and user experience. We call this The AirLogic Experience.

AirLogic Interface The end result, not only you will get a top performing firmware that is stable, fast and efficient, we also add in some unique functions such as: Super Channels – Operators who hold the license to 4.9GHz or 6.1GHz frequency bands can avoid interference from radar and other 5GHz devices (just made sure you have the license for that frequency) Polling – Multi-point installation with clients at different distance is always efficient but our Polling function will automatically manages the bandwidth according to the distance to the center AP for you. Lock-to-AP – WISP client can make a priority list for outdoor APs. So when one AP is down, the CPE will automatically connect to the next AP on the list. 8-point WDS Bridge Mode – WDS Pure MAC Bridge mode provides much faster throughput than common WDS-AP-Station architecture, allowing you to establish 8-point bridge network instantly Think of us as the Mac in the networking industry. Our hardware may have the same specifications as other but our firmware just made it better, so try out the AirLogic Experience for yourself today. And to wrap things up, I would like to borrow a quote from Macintosh – “Get an AirLive, it just works”. p/s: Did I mentioned, we also provide FREE Software upgrade. AirLive: What’s in store for 2010?

January 22, 2010

Posted by Airlive in General. Tags: 3G, AirMax5, Green, GreenWave, High Power, IP Cameras, Wireless add a comment 2009 had been significant for the networking industry. 802.11n was finally ratified, economy was recovering and more countries are de-licensing the 5GHz spectrum. So what does 2010 holds for AirLive? For a start, we have a new technology blog where we will share our concepts, ideas, product information and case studies with you. This is also the year where AirLive turns green with more online activities as we do our part to reduce carbon footprint, preserve resources and most importantly, bringing information timely to you at the comfort of your home. Technologies and products wise, there will also be major changes. Smartphone’s like iPhone and Blackberry are pushing the price of 3G Internet connection down. We see this as a business opportunity for 3G routers as users begin to look for way to share their 3G Internet connection. http://airlive.wordpress.com/

users begin to look for way to share their 3G Internet connection. For outdoor wireless connectivity, you can expect the demand for high power wireless products such as our very own AirMax5 continue to grow. High power wireless device allows a longer and wider coverage and this will reduce operator’s installation cost. Another area where we can expect to see major changes is in the area of Networking Surveillance. H.264 is now the mainstream video compression technique, together with new megapixel lens and more unique functions, this year might just be the year where IP Cameras will pose a major challenge to traditional CCTV cameras. Well, it looks like we will have an exciting year ahead, so stay tune to this blog for more discussion as we integrate life with technologies. Contact: William Ko Email: marketing@airlive.com

AirLive Hi-Definition IP Cameras - Introduction

AirLive Hi-Definition IP Cameras - Introduction According to industrial reports, network based camera continue to gain momentum in many markets. While applications vary substantially from business to business, the ability to monitor remotely from anyplace, at any time, is what users primarily want. But the needs for an IP camera have since changed. With advance technology emerging, users now want more functionality, such as the ability to view a bigger area, smaller file size and capturing finer details. AirLive new generation of IP Cameras (AirCam Series) provides much more functionality then regular network based cameras. In this special 4-part series report, we will show you how these new features will make your surveillance system better and more secure than ever before.

Looking at a bigger picture Megapixel have an important role to play in video surveillance as it allows you to view a bigger monitoring area. AirLive AirCam series come with 1.3 megapixel CMOS lens with a resolution of up 1208x1024. That is 4 times the image area of a regular IP camera. With a bigger monitoring area, you will need fewer cameras thus reducing your Total Cost of Ownership.

High Definition details There are situation where you need to be able to identify persons or objects in a scene. This could be point-of-sales monitoring where it is necessary to clearly see the entire transaction to avoid disputes, or in situation where you need to be able to identify faces or vehicles license plates. High detail images can be achieved by installing camera with zoom capability to allow a closer view of the area of interest. But with a regular camera, such enlarged images are usually blurring and pixilated. AirLive AirCam series provide you with high definition images, allowing you to see the details clearly even in zoomed situation.

Save on storage and bandwidth In situations where you need to keep the recorded footages for a long period of time, or in places where the video streams need to be send via wireless means, file sizes can be an issue as regular IP Cameras uses MJPEG or MPEG-4 video compression that can take up a lot of disk spaces. AirCam series uses the latest H.264 compression technology that can reduce up to 90% in file sizes, thus conserving network bandwidth and storage spaces. With the smaller file sizes, you saved on storage equipments making your surveillance system even more cost effective.

Central managed your surveillance systems For large establishments, it is not possible to monitor or manage your cameras one at a time. To central managed your cameras, you required professional software that can cost up to thousands of dollars. AirCam series is shipped with the latest version of AirLive CamPro Express at no extra costs. The new CamPro Express allows you to managed and monitor up to 32 cameras with support for H.264 compression and megapixel resolutions and many advance features that can only be found in expensive software.

In order to create a successful surveillance system, you will need a combination of megapixel network cameras with a selection of non-megapixel network cameras that are optimized for other needs (such as low cost). AirLive provide a wide selection of both megapixel and non-megapixel IP Cameras that allow you to build a successful, practical and cost effective surveillance system. NEW AirMax5 Extreme Firmware for WHA-5500CPE AirLive WHA-5500CPE had just undergone an extreme upgrade with the new AirMax5 Extreme firmware. AirMax5 Extreme Firmware improves your WHA-5500CPE on all aspects, from enhanced performance, to increased functionalities and right down to user experience. Super Channel Capability: Operators who hold the license to 4.9GHz or 6.1GHz frequency bands can avoid interference from radar and other 5GHz devices.
