In the south, the Hoover square is adjacent to the town’s park, which creates a rather intimate atmosphere.

In the north, the large Monseigneur Ladeuze square creates a far more open atmosphere accompagnied by the library tower.

We started from a single roof spanning the whole of the square.

The roof is divided in nine parts to better fit the scale of it’s surroundings.

Three of the nine elements acommodate to specific landmarks.

Lowering the south side creates a smooth transition out of the intimate space of the park and lifting the north sides opens it up to the wide square in front of the library.

Both ends as well as the middle of the span will consist of louvers. These louvers adjust their shape to the existing landmarks.

The existing organisation of the square provides easy set up for merchants while avoiding becoming a meaningless bare plane when no market is held.

We chose to preserve the existing layout of the square and the organisation of the occasional market.

Because of the limited sunlight penetrating the roof, we transformed one flowerbed into a fountain.

The remaining flower bed is transformed in a petanque court. Referring to the experiment in the Tiensestraat during summertime.
