I’m trying to:

Increase Student Preparedness

Try this combination of tools/resources from WileyPLUS and Blackboard:

Create: A WileyPLUS Reading Assignment for each chapter (or a specific section or resource in that chapter) Consider creating a Resource Assignment in WileyPLUS – to easily provide rich, integrated content that reaches multiple learning styles; Set helpful policies: for example, allow question help, especially the link-to-text help to boost study efficiency Followed by a Blackboard Pre-Lecture Discussion Board Assignment to get your students talking about the concepts before class Learn more at: http://ondemand.blackboard.com/understand.htm Learn more at: http://ondemand.blackboard.com/communicate.htm

I’m trying to:

Understand My Students’ Misconceptions (and Inform My Teaching)

Try this combination of tools/resources from WileyPLUS and Blackboard:

Create: A WileyPLUS Assignment based on Study Objectives Select questions based on Study Objectives Enable Study Objective Reporting Followed by a Blackboard Journal Assignment, asking students to document the study objectives they need to review and any questions that remain on those concepts; they may also comment on study objectives they feel they’ve mastered. I’m trying to:

Help Students Sustain Motivation Throughout the Semester

Try this combination of tools/resources from WileyPLUS and Blackboard: Create: Regular announcements in Blackboard—updating calendar, important dates, reminders for students. This gets students visiting Bb regularly, because they know they can always check Bb if they are lost or confused. An inviting “Welcome” for students and engage them in an “ice breaker” discussion through a Blackboard Discussion Board Assignment, describing a personal interest or a goal they have for this course; revisit the goals throughout the semester to see if students feel successful A Blackboard Blog or Chat Group to foster peer-to-peer interaction Regular weekly WileyPLUS assignments: These only need to be 2 or 3 questions to keep students on their toes. May or may not be part of grading. Ask students to: Review WileyPLUS progress through the Blackboard Grade Center (drill down into WileyPLUS details) Once you see the students who have mastered a certain concept (through WileyPLUS reports), ask individuals to Blog about their approach or findings or simply something they related to or enjoyed about studying that topic; ex: how do they relate this concept to everyday life? I’m trying to:

Help Students Become More Critical Thinkers

Try this combination of tools/resources from WileyPLUS and Blackboard:

Create: Essay questions in WileyPLUS and assign harder questions as these typically do involve higher levels of cognition (sort questions in the WileyPLUS Assignment tab for questions that are medium or hard); then pair students to assess each others’ responses (this could be done via the Blackboard Discussion Board, too). A Blackboard Post-Lecture Discussion Board Assignment to get your students talking about the concepts right after the class meets (or after an individual assignment is submitted for an online class); ask them to start by posing questions to a peer about a concept or a problem that they are having trouble comprehending.

I’m trying to:

Help Students Spend Their Time on Their Greatest Needs (& Help Students Assess Their Own Progress)

Try this combination of tools/resources from WileyPLUS and Blackboard:

Create: An SMS reminder (through Blackboard) to students to review their WileyPLUS Study Objective Reporting “Deep links” to specific WileyPLUS assignments that require students to practice concepts that pose the most challenges for students The opportunity for students to share their most successful best practices (via Discussion Board) with one another – especially including any student aids or processes they use to boost their learning A reminder for students to review their progress in the Blackboard Grade Center
