A Salute to Wisconsin’s Warriors is a two-day charity golf event to benefit three Wisconsin American Legion programs. All proceeds received from the two days of activities will go directly to support Camp American Legion, the Veterans Employment Initiative and the Troop & Family Support Fund. The event will take place on September 10th and 11th, 2012 at the Cherokee Country Club in Madison, the home golf course to PGA professional Steve Stricker. Stricker and others have taken on the mission to raise funds for Wisconsin’s veterans and their families so they receive timely, compassionate, high-quality care, benefits, programs and services they have earned. Joining Steve Stricker will be David Feherty, a former professional golfer with 10 victories worldwide, who will host the September 10th dinner program. The dinner will honor 23 Wisconsin Purple Heart recipients during a special ceremony. Feherty has been a golf commentator for CBS Sports and the Golf Channel and hosts his own show “Feherty” on the Golf Channel, which ended its second season as that channel’s most popular show ever. Thanks to his sharp wit and colorful personality, Feherty has become golf’s most irrepressible personality and a view-
er favorite. But for Feherty, his most fulfilling activities are on behalf of badly injured U.S. Troops. Inspired by a Thanksgiving goodwill tour in 2005, Feherty founded the “Troops First Foundation” which works with wounded soldiers who come home without limbs or have been severely disfigured. “I am honored to participate in an event that will help fund services for Wisconsin’s wounded warriors and veterans and to participate in the dinner Monday night, which will most importantly honor these men for their service,” Feherty said. Adam Burish, an ice hockey player for the NHL San Jose Sharks, will also be in attendance. Burish is a Madison native who played for the University of Wisconsin. He won the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010 and joined the Sharks in 2012. “I can’t wait to shake the hands of the wounded warriors who will be at this event and thank them for their service and sacrifice. These men and women are the celebrities, these veterans are the heroes,” said Burish. Other celebrities who will be in attendance include PGA Tour professional Steve Sticker, former Green
Bay Packer tackle Mark Tauscher, Green Bay Packer cornerback Jarrett Bush, former Green Bay Packer placekicker Chris Jacke, Wisconsin Badgers basketball coach Bo Ryan and the Wisconsin Badgers hockey coach Mike Eaves. Joining Stricker, Feherty, Burish, and other celebrities on Monday night will be the real stars, 23 Wisconsin wounded warriors who have proudly served their country. The wounded warriors being honored at this year’s event include: Jerry Bender-Rice Lake, Cristian Bennett-Evansville, Joseph Campbell-Wausau, Savage Clark-Lodi, Ryan Fellenz-Chippewa Falls, Todd Fringer-Gordon, William Ganem-Reedsburg, Michael Graham-Hortonville, Joshua Grobelch-Sparta, Anthony HarveyCudahy, Jason Johns-Oregon, Jared Kramer-Racine, Scott KruchtenSun Prairie, Stu Kuehl-Kiel, Tim LaSage-Madison, James MyrenChippewa Falls, Dave NanceTomah, Todd Olson-Oshkosh, Lyle Spurgeon-Phelps, Jeremy StengelMukwonago, Earl Taylor-Wausau, Matthew Tennessen-Kaukauna and Jeffrey Vorpahl-Peshtigo. Prior to the dinner on Monday, September 10th, an exclusive PGA Tour professional golf seminar will be given by Stricker with commentary by Feherty. The seminar is limited to invitation only guests and only available to event sponsors.
