Easter in Prague “The ancient splendor and beauty of Prague, a city that is beyond compare, left an impression on my imagination that will never fade” Richard Wagner (1826)

Why Prague? For Architectural Beauty Astronomical Clock

Franz Kafka Museum

Prague’s Astronomical Clock is one of the oldest and most elaborate clocks ever built. It was first installed in 1410 and later the clock was rebuilt by the Master Hanus in 1490.

As the author’s birth place, the Franz Kafka Museum is dear to his fans as well as the city. The influence Prague had on Kafka’s life is well-reflected in his writing, and is something of great interest to scholars and historians.

The Dancing House It is one of the most interesting Prague houses. Built at the end of the 20th century, it was designed by the Czech architect Vlado Milunić in collaboration with Frank Gehry. The building represents a woman and man (Ginger Rogers and Fred Astair) dancing together.

For Beer

The beer industry is considered a part of the national heritage in the Czech Republic with more than 100 breweries scattered throughout the ancient kingdoms of Bohemia and Moravia. The best known Czech beer is the original Pils beer, Pilsner Urquell, brewed in the town of Plzen. Other favourites include Staropramen, Krusovice and Radegast. Do not miss the Prague Beer Museum, located on Dlouha near the Old Town Square.

For Easter Markets

(24th of March – 15th of April 2012) The Prague Easter markets are not to be missed. They usually take place at the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square. Over 100 stalls stock a variety of handcrafted products; wooden toys, Czech crystal and glass-ware, jewellery, metal-ware, candles, embroidered cloth, and beautifully dressed puppets and dolls.

For Music

Music is the most popular form of art in the Czech Republic and there is even a saying, “Co Čech, to muzikant”, which means “Every Czech is a musician”. One of the finest venues in Prague is the Estates Theatre, where Mozart premiered Don Giovanni. Prague has two well-known established concert halls the Dvořák Hall in Rudolfinum and the Smetana Hall in the Municipal House. Do not miss Verdi’s opera “Aida” at the Prague State Opera on the 7th of April.
