Why Carlisle Curated?
A legacy refined for today
For nearly sixty years, Carlisle has set the standard for American wide plank flooring—where heritage, artistry, and stewardship converge. Carlisle Curated carries this legacy forward in a new way: carefully chosen colors drawn from the custom work most loved by leading designers. You begin with the shade that inspires you, then shape it into your own floor, selecting the options that bring your vision to life. Every plank is cut from the heart of the tree, patiently air- and kiln-dried, and hand-finished by artisans whose skill reveals the timber’s true character. The result is your floor—enduring, elegant, and crafted to last for generations.
Carlisle Curated is more than a palette of colors—it’s a promise. Every choice, from sourcing to finishing, is guided by uncompromising integrity, so the floor you create brings beauty home with confidence.
10 Reasons there’s no other floor like Carlisle
At Carlisle, we believe a floor should do more than fill a space – it should become the foundation of something extraordinary. That’s why we craft every floor as a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, guided by our three brand pillars: Craftsmanship, Artistry, and Stewardship.
Whether you begin with a beautifully curated option or work hand-in-hand with our team to create a custom concept, every Carlisle floor shares the same foundation: the finest materials, expert craftsmanship, and a deep respect for the natural world.
Here’s what sets us apart – and why no other floor feels quite like Carlisle.
1. MADE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE. SOLD DIRECT TO YOU
Carlisle floors are handcrafted in New England and shipped directly to your project. By avoiding middlemen, your investment goes into what truly matters: quality materials, sustainable sourcing, and precision craftsmanship.
2. IF YOU CAN DREAM IT, WE CAN CREATE IT
From species and grade to width, length, texture, and color – every Carlisle floor is tailored to you. Our Carlisle Design Consultants work with homeowners, architects, builders, and designers to bring your vision to life. Whether you begin with a Carlisle Curated color or step into our Concept Studio to create something entirely custom, the possibilities are virtually endless.
3. LONGER, WIDER PLANKS = MORE VISUAL IMPACT
Fewer seams. Fewer distractions. More natural beauty. We offer planks up to 20” wide and lengths ranging from 2–16’ long with a 6–7’ average. The result? A clean, uninterrupted canvas that showcases the grain, tone, and soul of the wood.
4. EVERY BOARD IS A CANVAS
Carlisle craftsmen use time-honored techniques to enhance, not erase, the character of the wood. From forest to floor, as many as 24 skilled artisans may shape, refine, and finish each plank into a true work of art.
5. WE SOURCE FROM WHERE THE TREES GROW BEST
Not all timber is created equal. We work with trusted forestry partners in regions across the United States where each species grows strongest, resulting in richer color, tighter grain, and superior long term performance.
6. WE USE THE HEART OF THE TREE
Our planks are cut from the center of the tree — not the outer edges. This yields more heartwood, more vertical grain, and far fewer defects, which are key factors for wide plank stability and a beautiful palette of rich color tones.
7. ONE FLOOR AT A TIME. ONE BOARD AT A TIME
Each Carlisle floor is made to order, never pulled from a warehouse or stamped out in bulk. In a world where speed and scale often take precedence, we return to the lost art of true craftsmanship - building one floor at a time, one board at a time - so that every plank carries the care, precision, and individuality that make your floor unlike any other.
8. CUSTOM COLOR THAT HONORS THE WOOD
We don’t mask character — we reveal it. Our Custom Color Lab uses fine pigments and handcrafted techniques to create colors that bring out the natural depth of the grain, not hide it. The result? Rich, nuanced hues that feel timeless and personal.
9. ADAPTABLE FOR ANY PROJECT, ANYWHERE
From radiant heat to concrete slabs, mountain retreats to coastal homes — Carlisle floors perform. We offer engineered or solid, prefinished or site-finished, with guidance at every step to ensure the right fit for your environment.
10. BUILT RESPONSIBLY. CRAFTED SUSTAINABLY
We select only the top 0.1% of available timber and work with a small network of sustainable foresters. Our one-floor-at-a-time approach dramatically reduces waste, and our long-lasting products reduce the need for replacement — preserving both forests and floors.
Curated your way

Carlisle Curated is a palette of designerinspired colors, carefully chosen from the floors most loved by our top clients. Instead of being locked into a single product, you begin with the color you love and then decide how it comes to life—select your width, grade, texture, sheen, and thickness, all crafted on the wood species that best suits your vision, from the quiet clarity of White Oak to the vibrant character of Hickory.
Weekend Cottage on Brushed White Oak

Each choice is a thoughtful refinement, giving you the opportunity to shape a floor that feels distinctly personal while remaining grounded in the curated simplicity that defines Carlisle.
CHOOSE YOUR CANVAS: Once you’ve chosen your curated color, the journey continues with selecting the wood species that brings your vision to life. Each reveals its own artistry in grain, tone, and character, creating a canvas as individual as your design.
START WITH THE FOUNDATION: width, grade, structure, format, and thickness, each designed to balance timeless craftsmanship with modern needs. Every choice is a thoughtful refinement, giving you the opportunity to shape a floor that feels distinctly personal while remaining grounded in the curated simplicity that defines Carlisle.
THEN REFINE THE DETAILS.
Choose your finish type, whether prefinished for ease or site-finished for a bespoke touch. Select a texture that feels right underfoot, whether the quiet sophistication of smooth or the added depth of brushed. Finally, define the sheen that sets the mood, from the softness of Super Matte to the quiet glow of Satin.

SPECIES: NATURE’S CORE
From color to craft, shaped by exceptional timber.
What Sets Carlisle Wood Apart
Every Carlisle floor begins with exceptional timber — sourced from mature stands, selected for clarity, and graded with an artisan’s eye. Our decades-long relationships with trusted sawyers give us first access to the rarest boards, often representing the top 0.1% of available hardwood. Each plank is carefully milled to reveal its best face, ensuring the strength, stability, and beauty that define a Carlisle floor.
White Oak
A timeless canvas for endless design
White Oak is Carlisle’s most requested species — celebrated for its balance, versatility, and enduring elegance. Its nutty, cocoa-toned hue complements a broad range of interiors, while its tight grain absorbs stain evenly for limitless color options. With exceptional dimensional stability, White Oak adapts effortlessly to any style. We offer it in both Plainsawn and Rift & Quartersawn, each revealing a distinct side of its character — from the soft flow of Plainsawn grain to the linear refinement of Rift & Quartersawn boards.

Additional Species to Consider
Walnut
Elegant and expressive, Walnut offers a rich brown tone and deep grain complexity that rarely requires stain. Sourced from the Midwest, it is softer underfoot and perfect for spaces where warmth and quiet luxury are desired. The rarity and color variation of true Walnut make it a statement of exclusivity. Our Walnut is cut from mature timbers to reduce sapwood and ensure consistency—a detail that sets Carlisle apart.
Cherry
Rich and dignified, Cherry has long been associated with heirloom furniture and fine interiors. It patinas beautifully over time—maturing into a deeper, richer red as it absorbs light and life. Its subtle grain and smooth texture make it ideal for serene, elegant environments. At Carlisle, we source Cherry from Pennsylvania where the soil fosters the most vivid heartwood. It’s a floor that gains beauty with every year.
Maple (White & Brown)
Maple delivers clarity and brightness with a mellow grain.
White Maple is prized for its creamy consistency, while Brown Maple features naturally occurring color variation from aging heartwood. Both are hard, clean, and ideal for quiet, modern spaces. Maple doesn’t stain as evenly as other woods, so its natural beauty is typically left untouched. Our Maple, like all Carlisle floors, is selected from mature timbers and carefully milled for clarity and proportion.
Hickory
Hickory is strength and character in one. It’s one of the hardest woods available, with bold heart/sap contrast and cocoa-toned heartwood. Our Heirloom Hickory is carefully graded for up to 75% heart content, offering natural warmth with visual unity. It suits both refined rustic and modern organic interiors. With a milling process that highlights each board’s best face, we create floors that feel both rugged and deeply intentional.
Yellow Birch
An artisan favorite, Birch blends soft grain with bold variation. Its reddish heartwood and creamy sapwood create organic, handcrafted contrast. Birch is perfect for clients seeking a less formal, more contemporary backdrop—something artful, subtle, and tactile. Milled with care to highlight vertical grain and color flow, it brings energy and warmth without overwhelming a space.
Eastern White Pine
This is the original wide plank floor—used in Colonial homes, ship masts, and historic New England estates. Soft, storied, and deeply personal, our Pine floors are crafted to patina quickly into the amber warmth known as “Pumpkin Pine.” With exceptional length and a high degree of vertical grain, they create an immediate sense of heritage. Their softness is a feature, not a flaw—they welcome dents and dings as part of the story.

Heart Pine
The Southern complement to Eastern White Pine, Heart Pine is harder and more structured. We use only true Longleaf Heart Pine—a species that grows slowly, producing dense rings and golden-red hues. Its durability rivals Oak, making it ideal for clients who seek antique character with modern performance. This is a floor that brings the charm of old Southern architecture into today’s home.
Red Oak
Often overlooked, but beautifully misunderstood. Carlisle’s Red Oak is nothing like the commodity flooring seen elsewhere. Cut from the oldest parts of the tree, it reveals deep salmon tones and refined vertical grain. Ideal for remodeling projects or when matching existing millwork, Red Oak can also be stained dark for a cost-effective White Oak substitute.
Ash
Ash is the “blonde Oak,” known for its durability and fine grain. Strong yet visually light, it creates a clean, contemporary feel while offering exceptional resistance to dents. With golden undertones and occasional brown heart streaks, it suits modern interiors seeking warmth and subtle movement. Like the strong archery bows and sturdy baseball bats made from it in early American life, Ash floors are built for resilience and grace.
Carlisle continues a heritage of craftsmanship rooted in the earliest American homes.

STRUCTURE: STRENGTH IN FORM
Crafted to perform. Built to endure.
At Carlisle, choosing between engineered and solid is never about compromising beauty. Selecting the structure appropriate to your environment is essential for long-term performance. Both are built from the same extraordinary hardwood and feature a robust 4mm wear layer that can be refinished up to three times, delivering strength and beauty that endure for generations.
Engineered Solid
Designed to offer the visual authenticity of solid hardwood with added flexibility, our engineered floors combine timeless beauty with modern performance. Precision-built for stability, they are well-suited to wider installation conditions without sacrificing refinement.
■ Crafted with the same premium wood as our solid planks, making them visually indistinguishable once installed.
■ A 4mm wear layer provides the same refinishing potential as solid, up to three times over its life and backed by our refinishing warranty.
■ Built on marine-grade Birch core for unmatched stability (9-ply for 5/8" flooring, 11-ply for 3/4" flooring).
■ Ideal for radiant heat, basements, and concrete slab installations.
Rooted in tradition, solid planks embody the heritage of true hardwood flooring — a single piece of premium hardwood through and through. Chosen for those who appreciate classic craftsmanship, this structure honors time-honored methods while providing lasting performance.
■ A single piece of premium hardwood from top to bottom.
■ A heritage choice with the same wear layer thickness and refinishing potential as engineered.
■ Time-honored construction, suited for traditional installations.
Both structures are crafted in the USA, one floor at a time, to Carlisle’s uncompromising standards — the difference is simply which performs best in your environment.

WIDTH: A SENSE OF SCALE
From classic charm to expansive luxury.
The width of a plank is one of the most powerful design choices in hardwood flooring. It sets the rhythm of a room, influences how light moves across the surface, and shapes the overall atmosphere. Narrower widths bring movement and a sense of tradition, while wider planks showcase the grandeur of the grain and create a feeling of quiet luxury. The choice of width is not just a design detail - it defines how a space feels, whether intimate and traditional or expansive and modern.
The Impact of Width
The width of each plank dramatically shapes how a floor feels, from the sense of scale and movement in a room to the expression of the wood’s natural character.
In a 20ʹ × 20ʹ room, 3" planks with short lengths create ~520 seams, while 8" planks with longer lengths create only ~100 seams. Wider, longer boards reduce seams by nearly 80%, allowing the grain and life of the tree to take center stage while seams recede into the background.
NARROWER WIDTHS (4”, 5", 6")
Traditional and rhythmic, ideal for smaller rooms or spaces where movement is desired.
MID-RANGE WIDTHS (7", 8")
Balanced and versatile, adaptable to nearly any design style.
WIDE WIDTHS (10"+)
Bold and luxurious, showcasing sweeping grain patterns and scale.

GRADE:
Beauty in every detail
The character of your floor tells a story, and Carlisle’s proprietary grades are designed to capture that story in wood.
Each grade reveals a different expression of the wood’s natural beauty, from the quiet elegance of our more refined boards to the rich authenticity of knots and grain. Whether your vision leans toward refined sophistication, versatile balance, or rustic charm, our grades transform the inherent details of the tree into a canvas for your personal style.
HEIRLOOM
Our most refined grade, with predominantly cleaner boards and only occasional knots. Rich, elegant, and formal in appearance.
SIGNATURE
A versatile balance of clarity and natural variation, creating a refined yet welcoming look.
ORIGINAL
Embraces the authentic spirit of traditional planks with knots, mineral streaks, and lively grain. Only available in solid structure.
Each grade is thoughtfully crafted to align with your design vision, whether you prefer the polished sophistication of Heirloom, the adaptable balance of Signature, or the timeless authenticity of Original.
No matter which you choose, every Carlisle floor carries the same uncompromising craftsmanship and enduring quality, ensuring that the character you love today will remain a defining part of your home for generations.

FORMAT: DESIGN IN MOTION
Aesthetic freedom, down to the final plank.
The format of your floor defines how the eye moves through a space, balancing natural beauty with architectural intent. At Carlisle, every board is milled to perfection, giving you the freedom to choose between the timeless flow of classic planks or the striking geometry of patterned layouts. Whether subtle and understated or bold and expressive, your floor becomes a canvas that responds directly to your vision.
Plank Pattern
The wide plank floor is Carlisle’s signature — a celebration of scale, purity, and natural beauty. Each board reveals the individuality of the tree in uninterrupted form, allowing grain, tone, and character to unfold with quiet drama across the surface. Planks create a seamless flow from room to room, opening interiors with a sense of expansiveness and calm. Rooted in early American tradition yet unmistakably timeless, wide planks embody understated luxury — a design choice that speaks through elegance, restraint, and authenticity.
■ The classic choice, allowing the beauty of each board to stand alone.
■ Creates a seamless, flowing foundation throughout your home.
Together, Plank and Pattern shape spaces of depth, warmth, and distinction.
Enduring Craftsmanship
Every Carlisle floor is created with exacting precision, ensuring that both planks and patterns meet in alignment. The result is more than a surface of enduring strength — it is a work of art that enhances the character of your home, elevating both everyday living and the most memorable gatherings for years to come.
When crafted into Chevron, Herringbone, Versailles, or other intricate patterns, wide planks become works of geometry and movement. Chevron compels with sharp, modern lines, while herringbone brings rhythm and energy. Each pattern introduces architectural drama and distinction, transforming the floor from a natural foundation into a focal point of design. They showcase the artistry of installation, create visual movement that draws the eye through a space, and offer opportunities for bespoke touches—like borders, framing, or mixed tones—that make each floor uniquely your own.
■ Ideal for entryways, dining rooms, and feature spaces where you want to make a lasting first impression.
■ Seamlessly balances statement and harmony, adding distinction without overwhelming surrounding straight-laid planks.

THICKNESS: ENDURING INTEGRITY
Strength that lasts a lifetime
At Carlisle, thickness is the mark of integrity and lasting strength. Our planks are available in both 5/8" and 3/4", each designed to accommodate different building needs while maintaining the same hallmark presence and quality. Every option carries our signature 4mm wear layer, ensuring the surface can be refinished for generations.
5/8" Thickness
Designed for versatility, this profile is ideal for spaces where height is limited, or construction is more complex. It delivers the appearance and durability of our traditional planks, without compromise on longevity or character.
■ Ideal for height-restricted spaces or complex builds.
■ Provides the same 4mm wear layer and refinishing potential as 3/4" planks.
3/4" Thickness
Our most traditional profile, 3/4" planks provide additional structural weight and a more substantial feel underfoot. Chosen for projects that value heritage proportions and lasting presence, it remains the benchmark of wide plank flooring.
■ Classic construction with added structural heft.
■ A solid presence that enhances both durability and underfoot comfort.
Lasting Assurance
Regardless of the profile you choose, every Carlisle plank is crafted to the same exacting standard: proportions perfected, surfaces refined, and integrity built in. Thickness becomes not just a technical detail, but a foundation of lifelong strength and beauty.

TEXTURE: A TOUCH OF SOUL
The feel beneath your feet
Texture is where craftsmanship and character meet—it defines not just how a floor looks, but how it feels and how it shapes the entire mood of a space. At Carlisle, we treat texture as a form of artistry, never applying artificial patterns or heavy distressing, but instead using careful techniques that enhance the innate beauty of each board. Whether your vision is for clean modern minimalism or rustic character layered with history, the surface of your floor becomes a canvas for tactile expression.
Smooth
A smooth texture highlights the natural grain, creating a timeless, versatile foundation that brings quiet elegance to any interior.
Brushed
A brushed texture enhances the grain with subtle dimension and softened sheen, creating a natural, tactile surface that feels authentic and warmly lived-in.
Timeworn
A gently aged surface that combines a light hand-scraping technique with brushing, adding soft undulations and layered depth that enrich the character of each plank.
Footworn
A lightly scraped surface inspired by the original hand-planed floors crafted over 200 years ago, echoing the marks of time and daily life.
Hand-Scraped Edge
Evokes the charm of early hand-hewn floors, with subtle irregularities along the edges that celebrate craftsmanship and add rustic authenticity.
■ Clean, refined appearance for any style
■ Highlights the natural grain and character of the wood
■ Creates a versatile backdrop for any finish or sheen
■ Gently accentuates grain lines for added texture and depth
■ Softens surface sheen for a more organic, lived-in look
■ Adds subtle dimension that enhances the floor’s natural beauty

FINISH: DEFINING DETAIL
Crafted at the mill or perfected on site
How a floor is finished defines its final look, feel, and performance. With Carlisle, you can choose the speed and precision of a factory-applied prefinish or the seamless artistry of a traditional site finish. Each approach offers its own advantages, yet both are guided by the same commitment to craftsmanship and enduring beauty.
Prefinished Floors
Carlisle prefinished floors unite artistry with efficiency, combining the character of genuine hardwood with the convenience of ready-to-install surfaces.
Each board is individually finished in our mill under ideal conditions, creating a consistent, durable surface that requires no on-site sanding.
Available in both our low-luster UV oil or protective polyurethane, every plank is cured for strength, free of offgassing, and consistent in color — allowing you to achieve a cohesive layout with ease.
■ Factory-applied finish under ideal conditions for maximum durability
■ Cured before it arrives, meaning no off-gassing in your home
■ Allows you to know the final color of each board in advance, making it easier to lay out tonal shifts for a cohesive look
■ Requires far less downtime and disruption compared to on-site finishing
The Best of Both Worlds
Site-Finished Floors
Site finishing is where Carlisle’s story began — a heritage craft that continues to inspire us today. Applied after installation and sanded to perfection, site finishing creates a continuous, seamless appearance with no beveled edges.
This process allows for ultimate flexibility in color and sheen, making it ideal for projects requiring a truly custom finish or the seamless integration of new floors with existing ones.
For certain applications, there is simply no substitute for this time-honored method.
■ Applied after installation for a seamless, continuous appearance
■ Eliminates the need for a beveled edge, as the floor is sanded prior to finishing
■ May be more appropriate when matching existing floors within a project
■ Typically completed near the end of construction, requiring less overall protection against worksite damage (whereas prefinished floors must be carefully protected once installed)
Whether crafted in our mill or perfected within your home, Carlisle floors are finished with the highest level of care and precision. Prefinished floors deliver consistency, speed, and durability, while site-finished floors provide unmatched flexibility and a bespoke level of artistry.
Whichever you choose, your decision is supported by Carlisle’s enduring promise: a floor tailored with integrity to reflect your vision and built to last for generations.
SHEEN: LIGHT, PERFECTLY MEASURED
Where reflection meets restraint
Sheen is the subtle yet transformative element that shapes how a floor catches and reflects light, setting the mood and depth of every room. At Carlisle, sheen is a carefully calibrated detail in the finishing process, engineered to enhance character while aligning with your unique vision. From the softest matte to a gentle, timeless glow, each finish brings a distinct atmosphere to your space.
Crafted for Enduring Atmosphere
All Carlisle sheens are applied with meticulous care—layered and cured to achieve beauty and durability.
Lower sheen levels minimize visible dust and micro-scratches, allowing lasting elegance to meet everyday practicality.
With a range of finishes available across the full palette of colors, the play of light on your floor becomes an extension of your style, enriching your home with subtle distinction.

Satin (15–20°)
Satin delivers a refined, understated glow that lifts grain and color without appearing glossy. This finish strikes the perfect balance between everyday practicality and elegant presence, bringing out the beauty of the wood in any setting.
■ Soft radiance that highlights grain and color
■ Balances resilience with sophistication
■ Offers easy maintenance and timeless appeal
Extra Matte (5–10°)
Extra Matte brings a velvet touch, introducing subdued reflection for a modern, organic feel. It envelops interiors in warmth and calm, muting surface shine while deepening the natural tones of wide plank floors.
■ Velvety, modern restraint for a contemporary look
■ Softens light and emphasizes natural wood warmth
■ Helps conceal signs of daily use for practical elegance
Super Matte (2–4°)
Super Matte is nearly sheenless, echoing the appearance of freshly sawn wood. It’s the ultimate expression of minimalism—raw, tactile, and authentically organic—ideal for those who desire purity and subtlety above all.
■ Virtually reflection-free, with a natural, untouched look
■ Perfect for modern, minimal, or rustic aesthetics
■ Amplifies the sense of raw, natural luxury

The natural reflective quality invites pattern and play, lending vitality to everything from classic layouts to accent floors.

Featuring only 10% pigment in the base, this finish allows the natural color tones and organic character of the wood to shine while softening the overall appearance. The slight veil mimics classic wide-plank floors that have been lovingly maintained with Lye Soap, showcasing a gentle warmth ideal for period-inspired and serene settings. For those who love authentic character but prefer a lighter tonality, this is a go-to shade—though for a more dramatic white, a double-pigment option is available.

Gray pigment is carefully buffed into the surface and handremoved until only the open grain retains color, achieving a neutral blend of cool and warm tones. The effect is reminiscent of wood exposed to the elements then gently sanded to reveal inner beauty, striking the perfect balance for spaces seeking neither excess coolness nor heaviness, a tranquil, lived-in finish.

The finish is crafted from a slightly heavier white base, enriched with a touch of yellow and a hint of brown, forming a creamy glaze. Hand-buffed and carefully removed, the pigment settles mostly within the open grain, accentuating natural patterns without overpowering them. The resulting subtle, gorgeous layering produces greater grain contrast, setting off cabinetry and painted surfaces as a perfect complement to the flowing lines of the wood grain. Weekend Cottage fills rooms with gentle comfort and classic warmth.
