nesia,” which will be given free to the first 100 people to visit her booth. Vernon Futrell, a 2013 American Idol contestant, will also perform. “He’s got the voice of a smooth old crooner,” Crittendon said. “I can’t wait to have the women hear him and discover his music.” 51 Sycamore will have food available for purchase in the atrium’s kitchen. “We realize that the show will be going on during dinner time, and we wanted to provide an opportunity for our guest to eat while they shopped and played,” said Crittendon. State Farm, Halifax Community College, Tupperware, SmartStart, Hannah’s Closet and so many more vendors will make for a fun event. Taste of Home Cooking School favorite The Wright Sauce will return and have samples of their famous bacon-based sauces. When asked what her goal was for the expo, Askew said, “My motto for Hybrid Stitch is ‘A modern twist on vintage crochet’. I hope for two things. One that women will discover you can always reach back into your roots and put a modern spin on anything. I’m all about family and where I came from and a lot of the creations I have came from my grandmother that taught me how to crochet. I have brightened the patterns a little.” “I also hope that they will discover from the fundraiser I am helping Taylor with that it only takes a little caring to make a big difference. If Taylor Harris, who is a 5th grader, has such a big heart and wants to help someone at such a young age, then adults shouldn’t have a problem treating others the way they should be treated,” she continued. The expo opens at 4:00 p.m. at the new location of The Centre at Halifax Community College.

Good food. Good times. Good shopping. The 3rd annual Roanoke Valley Woman Expo promises to bring all of these things and more to the women of the Roanoke Valley this Thursday. “Our goal is to provide a great evening event for women of all ages,” said Carol Crittendon, event organizer. “The Daily Herald’s event series really starts with this evening, and it sets the tone for the rest of the year’s events.” Exhibitors include new vendor Allison McKee Askew, owner of Hybrid Stitch. She said, “I plan on displaying various crochet items and other homemade crafts as well as help Taylor Harris (a 5th grader at Manning Elementary) raise money for an organization she has started called ‘Dollars for Days’ to help a local 4-year-old who was just diagnosed with cancer.” Matilda Lee, also a first-time exhibitor, was a last minute addition with her Avon business. “I love the last-minute nature of our market,” said Crittendon. “Friday, I was worried that I wouldn’t have all my booths filled, and today, they’re all occupied.” Other exhibitors are also part of the entertainment. Tammy Crowley Delotach, owner of New Day Fitness, will be conducting a couple of fitness demonstrations to keep the crowd moving. American Idol contestant Vernon Futrell will have his CD’s available, and featured speaker Lori Verni-Fogarsi will be autographing her book “Mom-
