The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Public Works Department, Road Maintenance Division wishes to bring to the attention of the Borough residents and property owners that it is illegal to plow snow from private property onto or across the public road right-of-ways. Illegal plowing of snow onto the road right-of-way reduces the width of the driving surface, creates safety hazards, restricts sight distance, creates drainage problems during spring run-off, and makes it difficult and more costly for snow removal operations. Additional costs means additional taxes. Borough ordinances allow a fine of up to $500.00 for each violation. We ask for the cooperation of all responsible citizens of the borough.

Within the borough, no person shall own any dog or cat over the age of six months without registering each dog or cat. (MSB 24.10.010)

DID YOU KNOW? There are required SETBACKS in the borough.

The borough animal care and regulation shelter can register your dog or cat for only $15 if the animal is spayed/neutered or $30 if the animal is not spayed/neutered.

Setbacks for structures are: 10 feet from a property line, 25 feet from a Right-Of-Way or Public Use Easement, and 75 feet from any water body. Docks, piers, marinas, aircraft hangars and boathouses may be located closer than 75 feet and over the water, provided they are not used for habitation and do not contain sanitary or petroleum fuel storage facilities. Structures permitted over water under this subsection shall conform to all applicable state and federal statutes and regulations.

The registration is good for three years. If you have any questions please call the Animal Care and Regulation Shelter at 746-5500.

Violating these setbacks may make financing your property (buying or selling) difficult, and could be expensive to correct after you build.
