Help the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Update the All-Hazards Mitigation Plan!

MATANUSKA-SUSITNA BOROUGH

PROPERTY OWNERS NOTICE Applications for Senior Citizen and Disabled Veteran property tax exemption are now available in the Assessment Division of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough in Palmer. Certain senior citizens or disabled veterans and their widows or widowers may be eligible for exemption from real property taxes up to $150,000 of assessed value of their permanent place of abode as well as contiguous property necessary for the convenient use of the dwelling unit. An optional $20,000 may also be available to those who qualify under this group, per MSB Code 3.15.037. Senior citizens must file an application the first year in order to qualify for the exemption per Alaska Statute 29.45.030(F). The deadline for filing the application is on or before April 30, 2013. Disabled veterans must file an application every year if they do not have a permanent disability rating from the Veteran’s Administration, in order to qualify for the exemption. The deadline for filing the application is on or before April 30, 2013. Property owners who are receiving this exemption must notify the Borough of any change in status that occurs, i.e., applicant moves or rents out part of the property. The Borough must be notified upon the death of the qualified applicant. The current Borough All-Hazards Mitigation Plan is nearing the end of the 5-year planning cycle and we need your help to update the plan. Hazard mitigation is sustained action taken to reduce or eliminate the long-term risk to people and their property from hazards. The planning team wants to ensure that this plan is comprehensive. The Matanuska-Susitna Borough (MSB), Land Management Division, has received a request from Central Alaska Energy, LLC, to place a pipeline(s) and necessary structures in the MSB surveyed utility corridor, from the ship dock to the tank farm leasehold (MSB006551) to facilitate fuel products transportation.

The proposed pipeline easement area is 15 feet wide along the south and west of the utility corridor as displayed with final placement determined by stamped engineer drawings.
