What is the GUCCI Project all about?
To explore and understand the impact of climate change on the urban population residing in cities across the globe.
And…
climate change policies designed to respond to it can have both positive and detrimental impact on the population’s resilience to climate hazards.
But…
are these policies gender-sensitive, gender responsive and equitable to all?
To understand this, Gender Assessment and Monitoring of Adaptation and Mitigation (GAMMA) methodology, developed by the project partners will be applied.

GAMMA II & III
We have completed GAMMA II and III reports which provides a deeper analysis of the current national and state level policies on climate change from a gender perspective.
Project
Our project on building climate resilience of the artisanal fishing communities of Chennai was carried out across 5 fishing hamlets over a period of 6 months, near the Marina Beach area in Chennai.
GUCCI in 2021
Key highlights of the project:
! The active participation of fishermen and fisherwomen from the community in most activities, such as menstrual hygiene. Women and adolescents in the area had demonstrated considerable knowledge about climate change. Fisherwomen were found to be motivated to learn new skills, share their knowledge to the community and develop their business skills.
! Inauguration of a Common Facility & Resource Centre, for the community for the purposes of delivering training programmes, knowledge sharing activities and awareness campaigns was well received by the community.
! Renovation of the community's Children's Park and recreational space. This park has since become a landmark feature within the community.
! Registration of 8 Self-help Groups (SHGs) which currently has 96 active members. They have since been registered with the Tamil Nadu Urban Livelihood Centre.
! Domestic workers, in the community, with the support of WIA, have registered with e-Shram (Unorganised Sector Welfare Board) of Chennai.
