Enrolled nurses assist registered nurses to deliver nursing care to individuals in community, residential and hospital settings. They perform delegated interventions from the nursing care plan to: provide care and comfort for individuals and groups, assist and support clients with the activities of daily living, observe and report changes in individual/group conditions and behaviours, safeguard dignity and promote independence and health and safety. Enrolled nurses contribute to nursing assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation.

Programme information This 18 month programme is a combination of theory, which is undertaken at our Porirua campus, and supported clinical experience, which is undertaken in a variety of community and hospital settings. It is taught in two parts as follows: Part A (120 credits) The foundation component is taught in the first 12 months of the programme and provides the foundational knowledge and skills required to enable students to work as part of the health care team with clients/patients/residents in a range of hospital and community settings. Part B (60 credits) Students work towards being prepared to work effectively, efficiently and safely within a variety of broad practice areas including hospitals and community settings. Students prepare for State Final Examinations that are conducted by the Nursing Council of New Zealand for Enrolled Nurse registration.
