What is Jumpstart? Jumpstart Charities give kids a sporting chance. Kids aged 4 to 18 years from families in financial need can receive funding to help with registration fees. Participating in sport helps kids develop physical and social skills. It helps build self-esteem. By helping kids get into the game, we’re equipping them with determination and we’re giving them confidence.

Does my child qualify? Families must meet financial need criteria in order to qualify for Jumpstart funding. Jumpstart follows Revenue Canada’s Low Income Cut-offs (LICOs) which are based on a family’s size, the size of their community and the total family unit income (before tax).

Where do I apply? Jumpstart funding application forms are available online at www.whiterockcity.ca and at each of our recreation centres: White Rock Community Centre (15154 Russell Ave.) Centennial Park Leisure Centre (14600 North Bluff Rd.) Kent Street Activity Centre (1475 Kent St.)

ART LECTURES Henry VIII-Through the Eyes of Artist Hans Holbein

Court artist Holbein painted the world of Henry VIII: his ill-fated wives and unhappy children, his accidental creation of the Church of England in his demand for a divorce, and the many deadly intrigues that swirled around his court. Holbein’s detailed portraits survived and revealed a dangerous monarchy, set against of violence of the Protestant Reformation. The Bad Boys of Baroque-Caravaggio and Bernini

They worked in a colorful and dangerous period known as the Counter Reformation. Caravaggio was a violent man with a huge talent whose tragic story is the most extraordinary of any artist to have lived. Bernini made Rome fabulous, creating fountains and dramatic buildings, yet arrogance and jealousy almost finished him. Despite their many human flaws, they created extraordinary art.
